Very nicely painted but a bit too colorful for my tastes.

Perhaps too colourful for modern tastes, but probably would have gone down a treat in Hellenistic times. Well done.

They do look good en masse – am giving some thought to the right mix once the Tarentines are out.

Those look terrific! I like the yellow shade on the pikes, what is that?

I used Vallejo 70877 Golden brown straight from the bottle.

EXCELLENT! I hoping to have my workbench back in use by the end of this week (once our new kitchen is in use, and my workbench isn't acting as kitchen any more! And then I'll be able to make a start on my first phalanx unit.

I have recently seen some very nicely painted Aventine Pike-men, they do paint up rather easily. Can't wait to see Phil's little master pieces, then I'll steal, I mean borrow some of his ideas before painting mind.

Thanks Keith and Adam, now I have an unpainted extra Phalanx running around the house. Those bad boys are some beautiful miniatures.

A tip for making that metal join in the middle of the pike if you are so inclined. I bought heat shrink, cut it to size, stuck it on the pike, and hit it with some high heat. It's pretty easy.

They don't look too bad from above, you can'y really see the join that much but the photo shows just how crap a painter I really am, I am going to paint over them all as I like the unjoined/plain ones better now.

Thanks

Keith
