Apparently someone somewhere produces every particular figure for every particular war in one scale or another. So does anyone do 28mm Norwegians for the April 1940 campaign given you can get a PzKpfw NbFz VI? |

Sadly Valkyrie Miniatures' site seems to be down. It's been so for a while: valkyrieminiatures.co.uk I've converted a whack of Norwegians if you want to discuss it. |

Yep. Valkyrie was about it. Been looking for a replacement vendor for some time. |

That's a shame about Valkyrie. How did you go about converting them Jeff. I only want to do a section
|

I have used: Battle Honors Early Soviets in greatcoats; Brigade Games WWI Austro-Hungarians; BTD WWII Germans in greatcoats; and Bolt Action Finns. I considered and rejected Baker Company Winter War Soviets (they have the characteristic Russian sack backpack), but have used Baker Company Finns in Snow Camo. Battle Honors also do Finns in summer uniform, but there are a few too many Suomis and Stahlhelms. The Brigade AH troops are probably the easiest: I just used green stuff to change the ammo pouches, and sanded the tops of the caps down a little. Any Early Soviets wearing the shlem are good, since you can just file the point off the shlem and you've got a pretty good Finnmarkslue, the ski cap of the Royal Norwegian army. I may just man up and green stuff the Russian packs on the Baker Company sculpts into Bergen rucks. Also, after I completed a bunch of these conversions, I noticed that Old Glory's SAW Spanish make a pretty good conversion base: the ammo pouches are pretty close, and they wear untucked trousers. Just do headswaps with Westwind's Germans in field caps -- they're by the same sculptor. Bottom line: for your purposes, I'd go with the BG Austro-Hungarians. EDIT: The biggest nuisance, of course, is the Madsen LMG. I wish I'd bought a dozen from Valkyrie! I converted Russians with DP's: slice off the edges of the round magazine so they're flush with the receiver, then add a plasticard magazine on top. I'm fortunate enough to own some of the old HLBS Austro-Hungarian troops with the Madsen, and I converted one of their Schwazeloesen LMGs into a prone Madsen gunner was well. Seriously, Manufacturers, the Madsen is badly under-represented: It was used in the Russo-Japanese War, WWI in the Austro-Hungarian army and by the Germans in the Musketen Battalions, and all over the world by various countries in the interwar period. |

Hey Jeff, any good sources on Norwegian uniforms? Cheers |
Steve Blease | 20 Jun 2011 11:51 a.m. PST |
Thanks Jeff, very informative. |

any good sources on Norwegian uniforms? I'm at work right now (and was waiting for my network credentials to be un-revoked when I typed the above), but there are some pictures of actual uniforms at this web site, notably the mannequin depicted on the left of the image: linkMoulton notes that were friendly fire incidents around Narvik because of the Norwegians' gray uniforms and billed caps. |

That's Lon at BG $36 USD richer! :-) |

Don't know if anyone is still interested in this thread, but Gorgon Studios seems to have some decent 28mm Norwegians. link |

I second Bedouin Al's comment on the Gorgon Studios Norwegians. I have bought several, and they are superb. Still working on painting/basing, but hopefully a Norway campaign is forthcoming at long last! |

How do they compare in size? With the likes of Bolt Action, Battle Honors, etc. , miniatures in 28mm. |

Note that company B makes a Madsen light machine gun so you can convert anybody you want to have one. Here is a Pulp Figures German colonial figure converted to Dutch Indonesian with a company B Madsen
(Painted by Fernando) I bought a bunch of the Valkyrie Norwegians when they first came out. I've discovered that every time somebody comes out with something new it's good to pick up a few because you never know how long they will last. I only needed enough for two companies to join the Anglican league in the VBCW.
The Gorgon figures look quite nice, I didn't get any because I had plenty already. I do have their Polish figures and they are quite compatible with other Ranges. The Norwegians are sculpted by Mike Owens Who does other popular 28 mm figures. By the way, further to Jeff's comment about the ubiquity of the Madsen, it's still in use by the Brazil police link |

I just got the Gorgon Norwegian figures, Madsen LM set. Very nice. This is a good range of figures for WW2 if one is just starting, and they go very well with the Valkyrie range (now sadly OOP) Here is the Valkyrie Madsen figure, painted, next to the Gorgon lmg figure. The Gorgon figure is very convertible, to other episodes. Just add brodie helmet, peaked cap, or other headgear to be any segment of the VBCW, or German helmet or Russian hat for WW1 or Russian Rev. I will get a half dozen more of these. There are 4 figures, standing and prone shooters, and ammo carriers.
