You know….besides those "Perry" fellows….?

I know about the few Dark Ages boxes, but any word on anything post 1066 by any makers coming out Ive missed?

Thanks for any tips.

Zvezda do 28mm late medieval infantry/cavalry in their Ring of Rule range.

Sysiphus18 Jun 2011 11:37 a.m. PST

I've been collecting and painting the HAT 28mm El Cid figures. They paint easily and take well to a Dip w/ MinWax.
Eagerly awaiting the release of the cavalry later this summer.

UK;

The HäT 28mm "El Cid" range does offer some possibilities. The Infantry are already out and the Cavalry should start arriving shortly. I have several sets of the Infantry and I've gotten my hands on sample sprues of the Andalusian and Almoravid Cavalry. They are quite nice, match up well with the Conquest Games Normans and the various plastic Vikings and Saxons on the market, and offer some very good conversion possibilities.

You can see test shots and painted samples (take with a grain of salt) on the HäT site here:

hat.com/current28.html

Some of the Cavalry, with a few added-on bits like quivers and bowcases, could work for Islamic armies well into the 3rd Crusade. The Spanish troops are suited to the Reconquista and the 1st Crusade, or as Normans in Italy. The Infantry, by mixing Almoravids and Andalusians (and even some of the Spanish) will work as generic Islamics across a wide time range.

These are all that I am aware of besides the Zvezda figures already mentioned. Would love to see someone like Zvezda offer their Mongols in 28mm, as many of them will work for a variety of Turkish, Persian, or later Islamic armies as well.

I wish there were more.

Mid to late Byzantine era and after: Turkish, Arabic, Persian…. there is a huge opportunity for plastics there and with careful planning a large part of the range could be "generics" with specialist sprues to complete for specific armies.

DColtman18 Jun 2011 2:51 p.m. PST

I've just painted some of the Hat Almoravids and I think they are great, but not sure about how well they mix with 28 metals.

link

Hat also has 28mm Sassanids and Byzantines in the planning stages. A well planned medieval range with generics and specialist sprues or resin/metal conversion parts would be brill.

Sysiphus18 Jun 2011 3:04 p.m. PST

Looked at your link DColtman, I keep my HAT in units distinct from my Gripping Beast, Crusader and OG. Although the height is comparable, the heft of the metal lines makes them different enough to fool the eye into thinking the HAT figures are smaller.
Agree that a line of generics with specialized troops as needed would fit well with the spate of new rules systems that use/feature 28mm miniatures.

Pictors Studio18 Jun 2011 4:27 p.m. PST

There are a lot of the older range Brettonians and Empire troops that will work pretty well.

Von Fabian19 Jun 2011 2:32 p.m. PST

I know of a new company that is going to make 28mm medieval hard plastic miniatures in the near future but i cannot say more at the moment. Stay tuned since, most probably, in about 3-4 weeks there is going to be an announcement with a website and the first planned release.

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP21 Jun 2011 7:13 p.m. PST

Von Fabian, w/out giving any info on the company, can you tell us which medieval period (WotR, HYR, Eastern Med, Eastern Crusades, Holyland Crusades, etc…) they will be starting out with?

I'm glad to hear there is a new player on the field.

Von Fabian22 Jun 2011 12:20 p.m. PST

The medieval period we are going to start is mainly about late 12th/13th century and what can i say….DEUS VULT!

It is a bit complicated to explain without giving many news i cannot really give at the moment (although i would like to very much)but start considering that in the time period of three/four months after summer, we'll have three plastic box releases thanks to which you'll be able to go back to late 11th century too.

I have to do a final trip to UK at the end of the month (Renedra?? hehehe)for the final agreements before starting the mould production, 3UP bits are all finished and ready for Terry hands.

6sided13 Jul 2011 1:38 p.m. PST

Sounds interesting, any update on the new plastics Von Fabian??

I curious to see/hear as well. All new plastics are welcomed!

jakethedog14 Jul 2011 3:13 p.m. PST

I too would like more info. I assume by your not-so-subtle hints that we're looking at crusaders

I would really love to see teutonics and byzantines in plastic!

Von Fabian15 Jul 2011 5:23 a.m. PST

No you are wrong, we are going to do 28mm multicomponent hard plastic prehistorical caveman! A complete range from the Cro-magnon type to Neanderthal till Homo Sapiens!
Several different heads as well as arms with different weapons like clubs, throwing stones etc. We even have a special miniature of a caveman trying to start fire! :) :)

Ok…let's be a little more serious. Kenshin, you are very near to spot it….. :)

My last trip to Renedra was excellent and everything is set for production. Sadly, being Terry a very busy man his pantoghrap line of production is quite full with production range from other companies (Mantic, Warlord etc.). The spot for our first release was settled for Christmas, therefore, one month later of what i hoped. Anyway, i'm trying to arrange our second and third release for January and February.

We are working on the website as well as preparing the advertise campaign but i cannot start it till the website will go online. I hope to be able to put the website online for the end of the month. You'll see there pics of the 3UP in variuos stages of work as well as the final ones. we'll have articles on what we are going to do in the future etc.

Regards,
Von Fabian

Its been a while, any update?

Low Roller01 Aug 2011 3:15 p.m. PST

Its been the end of the month… any news??

jakethedog06 Aug 2011 7:20 a.m. PST

If theres one thing I've learned about the wargaming/miniature industry, is that there are a lot of delays. If someone says it will be released at XXX date, give them two weeks of leeway time or so (unless they're GW). There are already plenty of examples this summer, the Avatars of War Dwarven Beserkers were scheduled for May but were released in June. Victrix's Austrians have been announced for July, have yet to see any progress there. Not to mention they havent said anything about their hoplites for half a year now. Even getting websites updated can take a while

Griefbringer06 Aug 2011 8:39 a.m. PST

Victrix's Austrians have been announced for July, have yet to see any progress there.

Weren't those originally supposed to be out in the beginning of the year or something like that?

jakethedog06 Aug 2011 9:27 a.m. PST

Ah you are very much right. Found this old article from October last year! link Its actually quite funny since they previewed their hoplite WiP in august and said they'd come after the Austrians. A year ago! Still, I love their products

Sorry for the somewhat off topicness

Anyways, its not necessarily bad that there are delays (after all the company would like to have better products) but it also helps that the costumer understands that "deadlines" (more like ETA's/predictions) to most miniature companies are "guidelines" because of how things may react in the process of production.

Griefbringer06 Aug 2011 12:37 p.m. PST

Actually, the Victrix hoplites were first displayed in Salute last year (ie. April 2010). Not entirely sure what was the estimated release date back then.

Good thing with Perry twins is that they tend to only give release date estimates once the product is almost ready for release (ie. around a month or so before), meaning that their estimates are relatively reliable. Many manufacturers could probably learn to be more careful about giving any estimates – giving bad predictions for release dates does not exactly help to improve your reputation.

Von Fabian06 Aug 2011 3:21 p.m. PST

Even websites can take a while…really true.
We are late on our planned announcement and website launch, that's for sure but we should be still able to release our first box for Christmas. Renedra has the 3up masters and started working on them.

Most probably i should have not answered to this post in the first place but it was temporary weakness.

Consider it…..you are working on the dream of your life and during this time you see many posts like this one, here and in other places, asking for medieval in plastics etc as well as many asking exactly for your first release or exactly the period you are doing! My fault, i didn't resist that day!

Anyway, consider yourself as having received an insider news before time and sorry if i gave some fault dates.
Anyway, we are talking here not "officialy", so when we'll have the website up and FIREFORGE GAMES shall be introduced we'll try to give release dates when we'll be sure about them.

Website should be ready soon, since i have the final meeting on 22nd August and should be put online for the end of that week.

We have taken an advertise page on Wargames Illustrated and we'll be on it on the October issue.

Just to let you know…Renedra is working on some horses right now….

Regards,
Fabio

Perry often show 3 ups and workbench shots of products which wont reach production for a year or so. Yes they do not give release dates until they have reasonably definite dates but when it comes to teasing us with future releases they are no different to the rest. British hussars for example.

oldbob19 Aug 2011 8:16 p.m. PST

I've added some Perry plastic Archers and Crossbowmen to my French army, just to fill the ranks you understand!

jakethedog03 Sep 2011 9:05 a.m. PST

So….any update?

Von Fabian09 Sep 2011 10:09 a.m. PST

I'm trying to avoid killing our web designer for being so late but we should be online with our webpage in about 7 days (5 of them are being taken by our new server host for documents checking etc.).

Anyway, i have opened a Facebook page were you'll find some news and pics:
