Hi,

The Eureka figures look nice. What other companies have suitable ranges?

DeanMoto15 Jun 2011 8:08 a.m. PST

Brigade Games, OG, Victrix…more I'm sure.

I have quite a few Trent figures. They need to fill in some gaps, but still nicely sculpted.

I have tried to give an overview on ca-ira.blogspot.com

Dixon does some from the Egyptian campaign. The dragoons are particularly nice.

I bought some of these years ago and they are indeed nicely sculpted. But I don't think they have added any new figs for years either. Is it a dead-in-the-water range of figs?

Duc de Limbourg15 Jun 2011 2:14 p.m. PST

They have added new figures but these concentrate upon Ireland and the Caribean

kingscarbine16 Jun 2011 4:09 a.m. PST

Thanks. Foundry also has figures under the Napolionic range. Are the Perry Mins AWI French usable?

apathostic16 Jun 2011 6:23 a.m. PST

I'm using Perry AWI as French Republicans with head changes with Victrix early French infantry. Once I get my head around it, I'll do some WIP pics.

The Trent figs are great with masses of character-especially the French.
SOME figs have muskets which are too flimsey but I've replaced these.
They are still bringing stuff out -recently for the West Indies.
There is almost too much variety if thats possible in some cases -27 different Hungarian infantry but as yet no officers, drummers etc.
The Russians are good solid figs but noticably bigger than the rest of the range.

There are loads on E Bay with pictures, which helps!!

The Elite French Revolution era figures are really tall, more like 30mm+ figures. They won't fit in very well with other ranges, but they sure do look nice.

Robespierre16 Jun 2011 7:06 a.m. PST

I'm not sure how the Perry figures are supposed to work with just a Vitrix head swap? For a start, French infantry didn't wear a waist belt in the Wars of the French Revolution.

Don't get me wrong apathostic – if you like the Perry figures and that's what you want to do, then fair enough, but it just seems a lot of trouble to go to (for a finished model that is still not accurate) when you can simply buy 'off-the-shelf' 28mm Republican French infantry from any one of the manufacturers mentioned above.

(Correction)

Ahhhh – I've just realised you're using the "1779 coat" versions of the Perry figures (rather than the 1776 – with the belt). Sorry – My mistake (but it still seems like a lot of trouble to go to though)

Foundry are 25mm.

Nobody mentions Eureka. Maybe because they are from australia and very expensive.

Duc de Limbourg16 Jun 2011 9:45 a.m. PST

And the first post by kingscarabine mentions??? :-)

DeanMoto16 Jun 2011 1:13 p.m. PST

Eureka!

Now that is a wargames figures… old fart

The Brigade Games figures for the Egyptian Campaign look beautiful and may tempt me. I also love the Elite figures.

apathostic16 Jun 2011 9:56 p.m. PST

Robespierre, the problem stems from being given said figures by clients and having to come up with a solution. They do work, so long as you use them for the less formal members of the Republicans. I'm using the Southern Militia in shirt sleeve for the conversions, so more demi-brigade militia conscripts than line infantry per se.

If that makes sense . . .

Robespierre17 Jun 2011 4:39 a.m. PST

Yes – makes perfect sense. I see where you are coming from now.
