I am getting tired of WFB and want something more. So my criteria are; 1) Usable with 28mm figures and able to handle large number of figures. I've got 500 dwarf infantry and 24 war machines of various kind. 2) Movement stands with at least 4 infantry figures or 2 cavalry. Multiple stands to a unit (4 or more stands) 3) Quick combat resolution, opposed dice rolls if possible. 4) Fun game. Cheers Jesper |

PRIDE OF LIONS. A unit is three stands, which can be any size as long as there is a uniform frontage. A stand can have as many figures on it as you choose. Combat is indeed opposed die rolls. War machines can be "constructions" that have armor levels, hit points, various weapons on board, etc. Lots of people have enjoyed it. PDF is less than $10. USD review and some discussion: TMP link |

Another vote of Kings of War. Even has dwarf lists that feature warmachines link and the price is right :) |

There is also the fantasy version of Impetus or Basic Impetus, which is free dadiepiombo.com/impetus2.html and so is HOTT wrg.me.uk found on the history of WRG page. Both of these meet your criteria to some extent and are good to play. HOTT is brilliant. |

Yeah, I'm about to introduce HOTT to my RPG group as the mass battle system for the war they're about to get wrapped up in. I've been making bases and will blu-tac my 28mm minis to them. |

Hail Caesar will fit your bill, despite the fact that it is meant as an historical rules set. You will have to invent something for magic if you insist on that. |

I'm curious about what stands out about "Hostile Realms" for fantasy. I have tried most of the other systems suggested here and have been left a bit flat. I understand the creative activation system. I also understand that a point system is included. Anything the entice a fence-sitter like me? |
