Hi All On a followup on the Yellow Noses, does anyone know about spinner colors of 109s in France 40. I have the reprint of the old Osprey book from 77 that shows Red spinners, on the cover. But there is no cover description, saying what squadron that is. The shot shows a French plane going down is smoke so I'm assuming its France 40. |

JG27 seem to have had red spinners, but most units black during the Battle of France. |

Hi The germans in 40 commonly segmented the spinner with contrasting colors so that a glance in the mirror would quickly identify "friend or foe". Just as the british usually had yellow wing leading edges for the same purpose, unless they were red. Rocky |
