Does anyone have any sources for the British "Egyptian Tank Detachment"? The detachment (drawn from E Bn) originally numbered 8 vehicles described as "old and worn out" (possibly Mk.I's). I know the detachment received some Mk. IV's as replacements. I have yet to find any photos of the tanks while in Egypt/Palestine. I am interested in the paint scheme (I'm tempted to say overall sand, but there is no proof of that). Also, were the tanks males or females, or a mixture? |

Yes I do and no I don't recall just where. The cammo for these tanks is unique and quite interesting. If you look back at my prior posts I had asked about these schemes. Sorry don't recall what those were just now (that and my home internet is a PITA). They were supposed to be new Mark IV's but they loaded junk instead. See what I can find tomorrow. mjc |

There was a very good article in Military Modelling in the late '70s/ early '80s. IIRC the first batch were in fact MkIIs, A couple of MkIVs showed up for Third Gaza. |

Thanks for the photos. Some appear to be Mk.Is, male and female, thought it's hard to tell in most of the photos. Check this site for some further info on the differences in the various marks. link Also, the tank in next to last photo appears to have had a segmented camo pattern. |

Can you imagine riding in one of those in the Middle East heat? |

Yeah. I was a tanker way back when. Fort Irwin was bad enough in an M60, which was a Cadillac compared to those old clunkers. |

I know one of the tanks was named "Nutty." Here's some interesting material I found: link link link Some dude's painting of HMLS Nutty:
