Damn! I was hoping for a straight up platform game not an mmorpg. I played Warcraft for a year or so and it was a huge time sink. I didnt like the investment in time required. |
Mithmee | 06 Jun 2011 5:58 p.m. PST |
Yup, it got to be the hat. Looks like I will be spending some time in playing this game. |

This is what Star Wars Galaxies should have been. I'm not sure my PC will run it though! Mike |

Gee if the movies ( 1 2 3 ) were half that good

Only thing missing is a take on the Hoth walkers. Love the 'homage' to all the original movies. Is this set in the Knights of the Old Republic video game world? |

ming31- "Gee if the movies ( 1 2 3 ) were half that good
" Well it's easy if: 1) You don't have to come up with any ideas of your own. They are pretty much Star Wars greatest hits. 2) You don't have to make up an entire movie's worth of story. Trust me, if this team made these into movies they wouldn't be any better than the prequels. 3) You don't have to deal with real actors and sets. (It's ironic how everyone who complains about the prequels hated the fact that there was so much CG but love these trailers. :) ) 4) Your studio gets one million dollars a minute to make trailers. Mort-"Is this set in the Knights of the Old Republic video game world?" Yup. Though I think it takes place quite a bit later. |

"This is what Star Wars Galaxies should have been" Yeah
I played Galaxies for three months and was so unsatisfied, I demanded my money back for the game and subscription(And got both.) Consumer right to redress is a wonderful thing. |

This was just the intro cinematic, the game itself could still be total garbage
Very nice intro cinematic though. Question for everyone – is this a game where a small group of characters can play through a campaign? I read that some upcoming SW MMO would allow that type of gameplay. |
McWong73 | 07 Jun 2011 5:12 a.m. PST |
Nice, but made no sense to me in regards to the SW timelines I know. |

All Old Republic stuff has a tendency to not quite make sense
but hey! Is Star Wars! Is (usually) good! |

The company behind it have a good track record on games too. As long as it doesn't go the wow route where you have to be top end with a group of 10/25/40 people to do certain parts of the game. One of the reasons I gave wow up was unless I put that much time and effort into it to be on these raids, I wasn't seeing all the game I was paying for. |

That was fun. The cowboy was a bit much with that spin shooting 'move.' |
Lupulus | 07 Jun 2011 12:25 p.m. PST |
The cowboy is slightly silly and the female jedi looks like she belongs in World of Warcraft. Otherwise everything looks really "star warsey". |

I played Star Wars Galaxies and when it first rolled out it was awesome. Then they messed it up and made it unplayable.I just hope this one is half as good as the old SWG. I play WOW right now and it is not as much fun. |
28mmMan | 07 Jun 2011 1:53 p.m. PST |
Hmmm I thought is was 100% all that was and is good with Star Wars. No issues. Looks like a beautiful game :) |
Mithmee | 07 Jun 2011 7:35 p.m. PST |
Well it also looks like there is a new way to do gathering or crafting. Your crew does it for you. link But I think that my first character will be a Smuggler. |
Chortle | 07 Jun 2011 11:59 p.m. PST |
>Well it also looks like there is a new way to do gathering or crafting. >Your crew does it for you. Woah! That would mean you lose out on the drama of the interactive crafting experience. |
WeeSparky | 08 Jun 2011 8:28 a.m. PST |
I actually love doing the crafting stuff. I loved SW Galaxies for that, until they turned it into EverQuest Galaxies with the New Game Experience. When I win the lottery, I am going to create a skill based mmorpg with no levels, classes, or restrictions. I'll be playing alone on the server, but it will be exactly what I want. |
Mithmee | 08 Jun 2011 6:36 p.m. PST |
Maybe but you can leave the grinding for materials and stuff up to your crew. I remember grinding for certain things in WoW. The end results after several hours was lots of dead mobs bags full of everything except the item that I was grinding for. After heading back to town and selling, banking or auction off the junk I got to look forward to grinding for hours again. Well if my crew can do this then great. Though more than likely they will just come back with junk as well. |
darthfozzywig | 08 Jun 2011 7:51 p.m. PST |
This isn't gameplay. Gameplay looks *very* different and is already dated (look at the gameplay footage of Battlefield 3 for comparison). This cinematic is just recycled ideas that are played out. Thousands of years ago, the Republic troopers look exactly like Clone Troopers. Smugglers fly ships that are clones of the Falcon. Every other Sith has a double-bladed saber. Sith cruisers look almost exactly like Imperial Star Destroyers. And so on, and so on. It's really sad. So much potential with essentially a clean slate upon which to work and they just make a mishmash of "omgstarwars!!11!!" randomness. As a friend put it, "this franchise is more machine than man now." |

I've always thought Lucas was more creative than the people who license Star Wars. :) From what I heard of early Galaxies it sounded like a really cool player driven MMO. However, then they did what makes every Star Wars product suck; focus on the Jedi and the uninteresting characters from the movies (and yes, nuts to Han Solo) instead of the universe itself. I'd love to see a Star Wars game or movie without a single light saber or force power to be had
or wookies, or mandalorians, or any member of the Skywalker family. |

2 McWong73 quote/// Nice, but made no sense to me in regards to the SW timelines I know. /// What do you mean? |
CBaggs | 09 Jun 2011 4:40 p.m. PST |
Anyone else notice the multiple "quotes" from previous Star Wars films? Such as "go, this is our fight", and "you must take a different path?". Or was that just me? |
28mmMan | 09 Jun 2011 6:23 p.m. PST |
Noticing quotes is the path to the dark side. Noticing quotes leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering. :) |
