"Did I just get Spam from within TMP?" Topic

I just got the following PM from a TMPer:

"I've just set up a new FREE miniature Wargames auction website please take a look [website remove] You can list in any currency Thanks for looking"

The PM was in response to a thread about comics on a Marketplace board. & the person that sent the PM hadn't posed on the original Marketplace thread.

So, the PM's topic had nothing to do with the original post. The PM's author has been a member for 6 years, so he's not just a troll. But he has also violated the "selling things on general msg boards" rules too.

That makes two of us.

Pretty much ensured I will NEVER use his service.

I doubt it's alphabetical. He's using auction/market board posts as the "parent" messages to increase the odds of them being read. My guess is he's simply working his way through one or more of those boards post-by-post and PMing the authors.

There are better ways to compete with ebay, but it's not a policy violation that I know of.

It might be someone who hacked a member's account.

I don't post on auction boards though.

A vaguely remember a post a while back where he announced the auction site. Or maybe it was someone asking if anyone had ever used the site.

Pretty sure it was a news post.

Mine was re: frewargamesrules and, as I only gave it a cursory glance, I assumed it was from freewargamesrules, a highly respectable source. Glad I read this thread or I would have continued under this misapprehension.

Must go and delete the bookmark I made of the site.

I must say that I thought it strange that the "Testimonial" on the home page was from a Col. George Nainan, Saudi Arabia.

Those spammers are relentless. Do they have no boundaries? Death is too good for him.
