Hi all, I won't get my Principles of War ruleset till I get to my club next week, and I was hoping someone could give me the base sizes from the book for both 15mm and 28mm, and how many figures it recommends to a base. I've started my Zulu war British in 20mm and would like to get some based. Many thanks Ryan |

19thC POW does gives 15mm/6mm basing with a recommendation to double it for 25mm and use 15mm figures per base numbers 15mm Regular foot, 3 x 30mm by 45mm to give the POW 90mm unit frontage norm. Regular Cavalry 3 x 30mm by 9cm. 3 to 4 Infantry per base Cavalry 2 to 3 per base. Irregular Units 90mm by 20mm Skirmish, by 30/40mm firepower foot, by 40mm native cavalry/massed foot. Figures per base rspectively 4/6, 6/10, 8/16 (mtd 4/6) The POW 90mm norm for troops is a biugbear. If you actually create 90mm wide bases you base yourself out of rules flexibility. I've recently re-based my Mahdists from 90 by 30 to three blocks of 30 by 30. Lets me experiment with other rules. |

I've based some 20mm ACW figs for PoW and found that the 15mm base sizes worked OK, but needed to be on average 5mm deeper for each type. So, each regular unit is 3 30mm-wide bases per unit. The depth of the bases becomes 20mm for Inf and 35mm for Cav. this is just enough space to accommodate the 20mm plastics I had. |

So, 28mm regular foot, 3 bases of 60x45mm (or up to 60x90mm), 3 or 4 infantry per base. 28mm regular cavalry, 3 bases of 60x90mm (or up to 60x180mm), with 2-3 cavalry per base. Depending on your horse size, I'm not sure you'd be able to fit 3 horses on a 60mm frontage… |
