You did better than I. What did you think about the elephant's ratings. How do they perform -- in your opinion? mjc |

Hi- Two elephant units single-handedly demolished a formed unit of Romans on the charge. They had 8 attacks (4 Clash value) on the charge and hit on 3+ on a charge so they are the equivalent of heavy infantry or slightly better on the charge. One of their special rules is the elephant player can force a losing opponent to re-roll the highest die in a break test. This can be very dramatic. My elephants did not have to make any tests for rampaging as one was killed outright and the other stood his ground. In HC, they only test for a rampage if they are forced to fall back. Elephant units have only 3 attacks each in sustained combat so they become less effective after the charge, and in addition skirmish troops get a +1 to hit them, so they are vulnerable in that regard. It seems to me that they are just about right in terms of balance: they hit hard and can cause the enemy to break but they are vulnerable in a drawn out engagement and to troops in open order, and when forced back they may panic. |
