Ok..I've heard horror stories for years about keeping paint on soft/semi-soft plastic figures and how folks paint on Elmer's glue (thinned), and gesso. I've received a fair amount of Imex/Accurate Minatures plastics. I'm trying out Krylon Fusion White Primer. It says "bonds to plastic" but smells a lot like Rustoleum (I've used it exclusively for over 25 years). Will give report on how/if it works in the next few days.
Anyone else out there in etherland use this stuff and did it work on plastics?

Thanks!

I tried it a couple of times with my plastics. In my opinion it did not have as much "tooth" to serve as a primer for small bits of plastic. As far as keeping the paint on long term I have not had a problem with either the plastic primer or the regular spray. I am of the opinion it is how you seal rather than how you prime. And of course if you are careful with your minis you should not have any problem either way.

When Bob the cat goes after my 17th c. Zvezda Poles the paint job is in trouble regardless of my methods. That cat hates Poles for some reason.

Good to hear! I use a brushed coat of Minwax as a basecoat sealer, spray it flat and then paint highlights. Then I spray additional coat of flat (Testor's) and it seems to work ok with most figures. Will let all know how it works with these guys. 54mm stuff is just too cool. Attention grabber of the moment I guess…. :)

I tried that Krylon paint -- black as primer -- on some soft plastic zombies, over a year ago, and they are still too sticky to paint.

I started on the plastics today. The primer seemed to be a bit shiny. I shot the figs with a bit of flat lacquer and they seem to be painting up ok. I'm not very impressed with the "cut of the cloth" as compared to metal figures but infernal regions, the price was sweeet…thanks Ken! I'll post up some pics. I've got about 100 of them. I've cleaned them up, put them into a wash/rinse bucket, cleaned them up and picked out 16 at random. That should work for militia. I'm going to get creative with some of the uniforms. I'm thinking a couple of English infantry coats will look cool with the units. Infernal regions, they ARE toy soldiers right?

Thanks for the hints and help guys…I do appreciate it!

I painted the first 16 figs out of the 100+. No problems with the primer. Shot the figures with a final coat of flat. You were right Waco Joe….it must be the finish. They look great!
