No problem at all with Games Workshop. They got me into the hobby many years ago and I still purchase from them today. |

Don't play their games (in every sense of the word) and won't – so I've nothing to complain about. |

A frequent complaint, lack of support for this game or that army, is likely a matter of resources and profits, so hard to hold against them.
This may be a stupid thing to say – but couldn't you write your own for the unsupported armies ? Using previous army books for the same army and current books for other armies as guides to what to include and to help set the points level. Ok, no good for a tournament – but it could work for games between friends. |

The biggest benefit for GWs games is that I can regularly find opponents. I cannot say the same for other games (except FoW, and the chrome has definitely worn off on that ruleset for me
). I'd love, LOVE to play more Historicals, FREX, or Infinity, or Battletech, or any of these other great games people talk about. But it just doesn't seem like there are people out there in sufficient numbers close enough to me to make it practical. So I continue to buy and play their games, because playing their games is better than not doing anything at all
Also I think the minis are good

On balance my feelings are more good than bad.Good GW make very good paints, scenery and tools. I like the Lord of the Rings figure range and have a lot of stuff. The plastic kits and figure sets are usually good value. You can find a lot of the more expensive metal stuff on Ebay. LOTR is a great game
Bad The list prices are very high on metals / now resin figures. I dont like the styling of the Warhammer and 40 K ranges but that is my taste
They appear to have killed historical subjects such as WAB. I agree with Mick for the very same reasons. I have less LOTR stuff than I would like due to prices I'm unwilling to pay. |

I like W40K, both gaming and reading the novels. Yes, there is a lot of derivative stuff packed in the novels, but, seriously, what novelist doesn't 'derive' material from old stories? |

I agree entirely with Miniature Ships. I like GW. They make a great product that people love. I like their stuff. I think they charge a fair price for most of their stuff and what doesn't seem that way to me I don't buy. For a lot of it the price really is quite fair. The new necrosphinx or whatever it is, or a model that size, would cost $50 USD from any company just about. People say that it would be in metal, this much is true, and it would be a real PITA to put together in metal. GW makes it in plastic for $50 USD and it is probably pretty simple to assemble. Same thing with the Balrog for LotR. The plastic model wasn't cheaper than the metal by much but it was comparable to what some other companies charge for the same sized model of the same detail. Just because of their size they have probably managed to get more gamers into gaming than any other company or game. I don't play their games that much anymore. My interest has drifted towards historicals and they don't make those really. But I still play from time to time. With all the Grey Knight stuff out recently I put on a game at a local store with my old Grey Knight army, necrons and renegade inquisitors. I don't have the most recent set of the rules but I did buy the new Codex, I didn't find anything in my army that didn't work in the new book. The game went smoothly and the two kids who played in it were sold. They have bought figures already and are building 40K armies. They were in my history club and no other game we did caused them to buy figs. Now we only did historicals while we were at the school. I guess that wasn't there bag. They did see plenty of other, cheaper, options but went for 40K anyway. GW must be doing something right. |

"and it is probably pretty simple to assemble" It is. My 12 y.o kid did it in less than half an hour. |

I was a bit annoyed when they increased the price of a figure from 30p to 50p, but I didn't care for the slotta-bases so haven't bought much since they were introduced. |
20thmaine | 25 May 2011 2:33 a.m. PST |
Ditto – never was a fan of slotta bases – just made all their figures taller than the stuff I already had. |
20thmaine | 25 May 2011 2:34 a.m. PST |
But it's so common these days that it bothers me less – I just have with and without armies. |

I do not stock or buy their product. So GW really has no impact on my operations. |

I used to like them a lot back in 40K 2nd edition (so sometime in the 1990's). Then the rules got more stupid, the background got dumbed down, tactical gameplay reduced, miniatures got samey and the company got greedy and unsupportive. So I don't bother with them anymore. Nowadays I only buy the occassional pot of paint from them. |
