That's hard to say! (well it is after a long weekend at Shefield Triples!).

The Warlords took a Hammer's Slammers game to the two day show over the weekend of 21-22 May and these are shots of the game.

There were two seperate games on the two days using completely different 15mm forces and 80% different scenery for both days (the custom made cloth remained the same).

That looks like a lot of fun :).

On a different note…

Please could you let me know the origins of the Heliodorus vehicle (and the Centurion) in the Crucible book. They appear to have Old Crow bits on them but also appear to use the same modular components.

I really would like to know whether the vehicles are a home-build or whether they are likely to be produced for sale (by Old Crow?).

Please could you help :).

I wonder were they got the Eagles from Space 1999 from?

John Treadaway23 May 2011 9:32 a.m. PST

Insomniac.

The Legion range of vehicles – like the Jagdlancer in the book – are pure Old Crow based on (paper) designs made by me from descriptions in Drake's books.

I have examples of both in 28mm and – although Jez has produced them for (28mm) customers to order – he hasn't yet got them on his website. I am trying very hard to get Old Crow to produce them in 28mm and 15mm in the near future. By all means email Old Crow to show your interest in this design – it might help galvanise them a bit!

Irish Marine – the Eagles are the Dinky die casts that Roger (the 15mm scenery builder on the game) salvaged from boot sales and skips! He's managed to amass 4 of them for the game!

Wow!!!! Very nice !! The Eagles find was a lucky break too !!!

Brandlin23 May 2011 12:03 p.m. PST

Thanks for the info on the heldorious John. Insomniac and I were discussing it over on Lead Adventues Forum.

I'll be emailing jed again… Both on this, and the fact I want all of his vehicles in 6mm so I can run large actions in 6mm and skirmish size in 28mm for the same forces…

You know we had as many tearful eyed men of a certain age coming up to the stand to discuss the Eagles as we did about the rules or the tanks…

We should just run a Space 1999 game grin

(Mind you – having done a couple of UFO link games wy not…

Sexy sexy boom boom! That is one of the nicest board setups ever in the history of mankind…well at least the nicest board setups that I can ever remember seeing :)

John is that you in this pic? picture

Here a link for a picture of John with David Drake back in 2004 middle left picture.

28mm Man: thanks for the comments about the layout: Roger the scenery guy worked very hard – he's done almost all of the 15mm stuff as I had done all of the 28mm terrain for the same game (like this from 2010 link and link ). In the picture you spotted, that is my mate Ivan, one of the Warlords team

There's another shot of another team member Peter in one of the others. Alot of the team can be seen (for those who have the stomach for it!) in more recent photos here werelords.com/individual.htm There's also stuff about other games we play or have done. Werelords is a private joke as we are all members of the South London Warlords as well grin

Fortunately (for my health anyway), I have lost some weight since 2004.

Thanks Matt – If I can get to Bovington I will.

Amazing links, boards, models, etc. … !!! Love the Drake mini !!! Those shold be for sale too ! wink

comstarhpg24 May 2011 7:13 a.m. PST

Sorry John it was the only link I could find of you on my phone this morning and like you I had to shrink in size for health reasons but still need to loose some more.

Legion I think (John will correct me) but i think it was only available at Salute 2004 (which i could not make that year damn work! bit like Sheffield gggrrr) in very limited numbers.

Cheers Matt

The Dinky collector in me is shuddering in horror…

On the other hand – I'd be a dishonest excuse for a swine if I didn't congratulate all concerned on the result – I first thought I was looking at photos of a 28mm game!

Well … I'm in the US … so I certainly wouldn't have made it regardless … frown Did find some on eBay though … auction evil grin

John Treadaway24 May 2011 9:56 a.m. PST

MacrossMartin – The Eagles Roger found and used were all beyond keeping in any sensible state of repair other than as game props: hardly 'Mint in Box', shall we say!

Matt – don't worry about pictures of me: been fighting the weight issues for 40 years grin
