What one thing in The Hobby is most likely to give an Old Grognard a massive stroke from unsupressed (or maybe suppressed) rage?
You may post multiple times, but please! Only one entry per post. grin

Would my intention to use a bunch of Perry ACW and assorted Perry & Victrix plastic Napoleonics to convert into baroque sci-fi troops do it, do you think?

Pointing out a game written in the past ten years might be better than some other ancient favorite.

Why has no-one mentioned the elephant in the room?

Excuse me, but it is clearly a converted Mumak, and not a true elephant.

From experience I can tell you that painting 15mm SYW in mitres with a vaugely French uniform color and calling them Old Guard is worth a laugh.

It's right up there with swapping the turrets on tank models.

When those bendy, pre-painted Old Guard soft plastics with bright blue coats arrive (a joint Hasbro/GW/ Chinese govt project) we'll see some obituaries here.

They'll come with a stat card that shows they aren't very good (because 40K players know Imperial Guards aren't very good) and the Old Guard are obviously senior citizens. It's in the name and everything.

For me, it will probably always be referring to a gun as a "6-lber" or the like.

All the best,

John.

I'd say "historical things"…

Goober13 May 2011 3:32 p.m. PST

An uninitiated player expecting to actually have fun whilst playing in a nappy game, and not realising that actually fun is not the objective, indeed tactical victory on the battlefield is even a secondary objective, compared to the cold war that is constantly being waged between the armchair generals in displaying their accumulated knowledge, exhibited in sharp, snide, disparaging exchanges where the slightest mistake or factual oversight is leapt upon and the unfortunate torn to conversational shreds in a barrage of condescending and superior belittlement.

ALthough I've never actually played a napoleonics game, i just observe from the outside whilst enjoying some other "stupid" genre with my one brain cell :)

EDIT: And, upon further consideration, not just restricted to Napoleonics either….
