Fantastic tutorial, Joe. Some really good (and unique) ideas, like how you do your windows and signs. |

Very cool. I've been making my buildings with wooden frames, placing each plank individually. It is so time consuming I might make my next batch the way you suggest now that i see you can get good results in this manner. When I do a corrugated tin roof for a western town I cut dozens of identical sheets roughly 1.5"x3". Before assembling the roof I mark the rivets by making indentations in the styrene with a dulled pin or rounded bit of brass rod
.flip the piece over when your done and you have rivets. For a banded tin roof I also cut section, but they are longer
and the rivets are marked into the joining band before it is glued in place. Here is an example of what I am talking about
picture This is part of a modular Bayou/Swamp/Bog board I am making for Malifaux (the Wyrd Miniatures game). The left side of the roof is old banded tin and the right is patched over with corrugated tin. |

@ Colonel: Would you mind emailing me the files for your signs? Your process has given me an idea
I would just need an image of the boards and a separate sign image. I think if I open them up in Photoshop, I can weather the sign. paintbeast@yahoo.com |

Thanks, everyone. As ever, I'm really pleased by the response I've had, so of course I'll keep blogging my ideas/methods. Paintbeast, I can send you the image file for the boards background, but I don't keep the text files themselves after I've used them – they are all one-offs. I just set up an appropriate rectangle in a spreadsheet, type the text, print, and move on. Let me know if you still want it. |

That will work. I'll send you back what I come up with. |
