Not much left after war movies, anything wargaming related (westerns, pulp, etc), and "history" (which eliminates a LOT of what's left on my list).

So, I'm left with mysteries (gotta go with Rear Window), musicals (That Thing You Do!) and comedies (SO hard to narrow down, but how about Caddyshack).

Eliminating all references to war or history…. (so eliminating the bulk of films ever made, including such masterpieces as The Leopard, Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago, The Duellists, Ice Cold in Alex, Star Wars, The Virgin Spring, Godfather II, Apocalypse Now, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, LA Confidential, Napoleon, War and Peace and even Citizen Kane).

Repo Man (the Alex Cox one from 1984, not the modern film of the same name).

I'd also go for "Went the day well ?" if it wasn't a bit war related.

Blues Brothers – surely the appearance of the National Guard, and the odd tank, eliminate this on the "war related" criterion.
