I was expecting something like the Marines Hymn, but yes, I did expect to hear a marching song. Just trudging along sucks, cadence helps make it tolerable. |

Easterlings? How about "Here comes Peter Cottontail"? (Hey, they had the helmets for it.) |

I am just sorry "Where there's a whip there's a way" didn't make it in

I used to hear it was, "All we own, we owe her"; or "Oh we love the old one"; and "Oh we loathe the old one." The screenplay shows that the correct lyrics are "O-Ee-Yah! Eoh-Ah!." Yeah, "Where there's a whip" is a classic. |

"All we own, we owe her" was how I always heard it. But I love "we loathe the old one". Great tune for thrall guards. "I am just sorry "Where there's a whip there's a way" didn't make it in
" Amen, brother! I So remember watching that the first time, on TV at my cousin's house. I still want Rankin/Bass goblin/orc miniatures. |

L. Frank Baum wrote the Wizard of Oz in the era of William Jennings Bryan and the Trust-Busting Progressive era. Oz refers to the abbreviation for ounce, and the great debates over a gold or bimetallic monetary standard. Other economic issues of the day included farmers overextending themselves with consumer credit to unscrupulous banks and merchants, hence all they owned, they owed back to the bank/merchant/railroad. It's "All we own, we owe," plain and simple. End of thread. |

That's an awesome history lesson on the origin of that cadence. And yes, I too expected it. I suppose they chose not to go with it to avoid being accused of lacking Artistic originality. |
