Hi all, going through some old stuff and I found a copy of Tractics (three volumes and charts) and was wondering what they might be worth?

Thanks – Allen

A good "OMG we played these?" moment or two.

I'm planning on pulling them out this summer with my boys. Give them a opportunity to appricate the value of automation and computers

rampantlion27 Apr 2011 1:36 p.m. PST

Never played them, not even sure who I got them from, have had them for 20 years or so I would say.

They're priceless!

chuck05 Fezian27 Apr 2011 2:22 p.m. PST

They're worth what someone will pay. I usually check ebay to look for similar items then set a price somewhere between the high and low end depending on the quality of the item.

nazrat27 Apr 2011 2:29 p.m. PST

Somebody just linked to this here on TMP-- a guy was trying to sell them on eBay for over 190 pounds! I'd wager that they would go for far less, but with the madness of eBay who knows? 8)=

nazrat27 Apr 2011 2:30 p.m. PST

Well, I went and looked and they are running about $170-$190 right now. But there are loads of copies of various editions or parts thereof…

I sold mine about 20 years ago, so maybe you got my old copy!

lkmjbc327 Apr 2011 3:11 p.m. PST

They are worth exactly what someone will pay for them!

Ok… maybe that didn't help…

Probably a fair price is $50-$90. They are on e-bay right now for $185 USD in an online store that typically sells stuff for more than full price. Start the bidding at $50. USD The collectors will be out to have a look.

There was a discussion several months ago on TMP regarding Tractics rarity that mostly discussed pricing:

The link you want is the last one to boardgamegeek from that discussion:

Go to the ebay box about a third of the way down the page and click on the "Complete" tag. You will see a history of Tractics ebay auctions and what they ended up at.

i still have my copy from 30 years ago and still tempted to give it another go. For WW2, Tractics and Take Cover are games i played so many of, I could play them with little reference, or just a quick brush up.

Sundance27 Apr 2011 4:45 p.m. PST

I bought mine for $10 USD and sold them for $10, but you could probably reasonably ask $30 USD to $50 USD and expect to get it. Maybe even more.

I see them all the time on E-bay selling for around $25 USD (that's what I paid for mine last year).

Looking at the EBay completed listings for actual sale prices, 2 have sold recently for aobut $28 USD and $49. USD The other asking prices may have to wait awhile.

A fellow club member told me that he got 15.00 for his set recently on ebay. As noted auctions are a crapshoot – sometimes seven\eleven, sometimes snake eyes\boxcars.

Noble Knight has a set at 285.00 on their website.

There is some difference in pricing based on editions as well – original printings were Guidon Games, later were TSR.

If looking to get a collectors interest the condition of the box will also obviously be important.

To anyone who actually has played or knows the rules…nothing. Hopefully, some sucker completist will want them.

I actually gave mine away a couple of years ago to a gamer in Australia. Not my style at the time and glad to see them go to an enthusiastic gamer in need.

kevanG28 Apr 2011 2:46 p.m. PST

I can still remember my first tractics game.

all set up for a good couple of hours of gaming…A panther ambushing a troop of shermans coming down the road…

Game was over in 10 minutes! So we played it a couple of times more!

Prices online vary from very reasonable to the Noble Knight priced set; but, considering only 5000 copies were printed…

Our hobby shop had a copy or two but they didn't sell. Finally when it was closing I bought a copy for $6. USD

I believe we have accumilated 3 copies of Tractics over the years.

The First copy: Dad purchased back in the 70s when he collected and played with ROCO HO before switching to Micro-Armor.

The Second copy: I purchased from ebay back in the late 90s-2k, and was to replace his old copy ( his old copy was dimenished looking with writing on the books & charts from gaming over the yrs ). However, he ended up writing on the books and charts again.

The Third copy: I also purchased from ebay last year and stored away with all my other WWII Micro Armor & HO Miniature Rules I have purchased throught the years ( He will never see this copy…ever ).
