I have a couple of CMG's Ayame battlesuits that I have painted as heavy support for my Protolene Space Dog pirates (Bark! Bark! Arrrr!). I need to strip them back and repaint.

My normal method of stripping metal miniatures is to dunk them in nail varnish remover for 24 hours or so and then scrub with a nail brush and toothbrush. Works well and i can re-use the nailvarnish by filtering out the paint clag using a wad of cotton wool and a disposable funnel.

However, I've never stripped paint from resin before and I'm not sure if the nail varnish remover will react with the resin? The CMG resin seems to be the more flexible type.

Any ideas, cognoscenti?

I use Pinesol. I don't know if this is still available in the UK, but there should be something similar available. The active ingredient is Pine Oil…if you know any commercial painters they should be familiar with this stuff as it has become trendy again due to the Green movement. So what you would need is Pinesol/diluted Pine Oil (only use this if you can find someone to mix you up a batch)/or similar.

- Soak for about 5 minutes
- Scrub with an old tooth brush (don't over due it, you are just breaking the seal to allow the stuff to really work)
- Soak again for 5-10 minutes
- scrub gently, paint should be coming away easily already
- repeat soak and scrub steps as needed
- clean up with water

You will want to wear gloves when dealing with Pinesol (or other Pine Oil products).

I've cleaned all sorts of things this way and never had a problem.

Simple Green works great. Same procedure at Pinesol.
