There must be a lot out there. I am interested in generic humanoid and especially alien life forms to play THW 5150 with. Any suggestions for interesting ranges? I am most interested by large very high quality sculpted models rather than the crude amateurish models. Other than that interested in anything

GoT minis are 28mm? And
4ukp (that's over 6$us right?).. that seems like a lotta dough for a single 28mm figure. Am I missing something? |

GoT is no more expensive than several of the other options listed, and far less expensive than many GW models. A quick peak at the GW site and I see many single figures in the $10-20 range. |

Damn.. 28mm sci-fi has really jumped since I last I looked! I guess I've been spoiled by years of historical 28mm prices. Mercs 10$ Rezolution 5$ to 15$ Infinity 8$ Urban war/Metrop 8$ GW 7$-10$ (prices are rough and for a metal individual basic troop type) |

I don't think this is a thread about cost. I'm sure another suitable topic could be opened about that. As to the OP, If you're looking for really high quality stuff, check out Cool Mini or Not. Alot of boutique operations sell out of there with some great figures. |

Thanks guys I will check them all out. I am looking for high quality but also skirmish wargames level. i.e. I need squads of say 10 men. So a company like reaper minis which make beautiful minitures but at maybe $10 USD each is not really viable. It is unlikely to be a major issue but I live in the UK, som figure ranges that can be obtained in the uk have an advantage as shipping and customs from the US has become a real problem. IMHO. Thanks guys, To give you an idea, I have looked at everything mentioned so far and my favourites are
. Probably Pig Iron nbr 1 they look hard. Infinity and Urban mammoth next, beautiful miniatures though much more beautiful and less hard looking than pig iron. Of course games worshop, I already have some imperial guard plastic Cadians, Tau troopers, Necron infantry and Tyrranid Hormagaunts, all of which are excellent value for money as plastics. I also have a lot of AT-43 miniatures I will probably use. I think Pig Iron are the most likely additions for human troopers, though for robots and aliens some of the urban war and Infinity figures look amazing

It was already mentioned, but be sure to check out em4 for good models available in enough poses to make squads and based in the UK. |

"Of course games worshop, I already have some imperial guard plastic Cadians, Tau troopers, Necron infantry and Tyrranid Hormagaunts, all of which are excellent value for money as plastics." Good quality too. I've yet to see any sort of casting defects in all the stuff I ordered so far. Mould lines can get a little excessive on plastics, but nothing that can't carefully scrapped or filed off. |

GoT minis are 28mm? And
4ukp (that's over 6$us right?).. that seems like a lotta dough for a single 28mm figure. Am I missing something? As per your follow-up posts, yes, the price of 28mm figures have gone up, G.O.T. are around the middle-tier in price, cheaper in the squad packs that are out after Salute. Damn.. 28mm sci-fi has really jumped since I last I looked! I guess I've been spoiled by years of historical 28mm prices. Yes and No: its generally fair to say that historical figures, rank & file that is, you will sell far more units than with skirmish sci-fi figures (you need more). As such you can operate with a lower unit price as you will sell more units. Skirmish figures, particularly character figures where a person is unliley to ever have more than 1 of them, are invariably more expensive
they have to be to be economical to produce. However, there is obviously a balance point between cost and sales. |

Thanks for the info! The whole GoT line is awesome. If anyone is curious (like I was) they match well in size with infinity, foundry, and copplestone. The sculpting style and size matches very closely to infinity figures. |

Add Wargames Foundry to the list. Their street violence has some military, police and paramilitary stuff in 28mm (as well as armed civvies). |

The whole GoT line is awesome. I like it too. Good sculpting and casting quality and nice designs. I do wish they'd put out some more stuff, it's been rather quiet as of late. If anyone is curious (like I was) they match well in size with infinity, foundry, and copplestone. The sculpting style and size matches very closely to infinity figures. The GOT minis I've got (har har) are on the very slim side so they may look a bit undersized. OTOH many Infinity minis, whilst stylistically similar to GOT, seem to be somewhat taller. They might be more properly styled "slim 30mm". But I suppose the difference between 28-32mm scales is much in the eye of the beholder in any case. That said, here's a couple that may or may not have been mentioned yet (takes time to compile the list, see!) that are "about 28mm" based on the size of the humans in the various lines (some of the sites only offer humans, mind you): * Bronze Age (variously termed 28 or 32mm) link * Dark Age Games (roughly 32mm, sizes vary a bit) dark-age.com/main.php * Darkson Designs (AE:Bounty, some "random" aliens and humans as of yet) darksondesigns.com * Freebooter Miniatures (a couple of "random" scifi minis) freebooterminiatures.de/en * Mongoose Publishing (Judge Dredd) link * Micropanzer (declared 32mm) link * Reaper (random scifi minis in the Chronoscope line, sizes variable but generally a bit on the big side) reapermini.com * Scotia Grendel (VOID and Kryomek) scotiagrendel.com * Shadowforge (females only minis for various genres) shadowforge.com.au * Taban miniatures (post apoc stuff mainly, scale "28-32mm" but probably more @ the latter) taban-miniatures.com For aliens specifically, there is also this thread link that is mostly about ca. 28mm scale -- it's usually mentioned. |

My gut instinct answer to high end 28-32 with options of humans, aliens, and robots is Infinity although there are standouts in many of the above sources. The G.O.T. from Antenocitis Workshop look great
the site is loaded with other goodness also. link This above set makes a great skirmish unit. As far as the price
the current price range of $6-8 is certainly more than 10 years ago but so are the prices of metal, the quality of sculpts, etc.. So no, I do not think $6 USD is too much for high quality sculpts, which I feel they are. Most skirmish games are 5-7 miniatures so $60-80; certainly not any more than from the other sites that offer the same quality sculpts and less then some. A side note, the paint jobs on the site (miniatures) are top notch. |

Here's two I forgot last time around: * Soda Pop (maybe a bit too extremely funny-over-the-top-anime in style for most, size around 32mm): link * Studio McVey (Sedition Wars, humans only in the for-other-than-serious-collectors metal line so far but I assume Firebrand mutants to be in the pipeline -- no real idea about the true size as yet): seditionwars.com |

Just a quick snap of some of the GOT figures against i-kore, infinity and hasslfree. picture The GOT-PEA troopers are varied heights, ranging from 5-10 to well over 6 feet as they are from ‘geneered stock in the 'verse. Females and Males are different heights also, based on different template figures (deliberately so). Their armour is also skin-tight (5mm total) so does not bulk-out the body proportions. (technically their body proportions are accurate, just most wargames figures tend to be bulkier, in this case it worked well for us as the GOT forces were/are supposed to be leaner and taller, on average, than the rest of the factions.) So the GOT forces are more "Mass Effect" than HALO-Spartan. The next Faction "Novaya-Rus" are shorter and bulkier, both in stature and in their armour. More akin to MERCS or Spartans in armour style, although not as big/bulky as MERCS, much closer to Hasslefree size. Similarly the Wales & West Security figures already out are slightly shorter and bulkier than the PEA Troopers. There are 3 squad-packs of PEA troopers out at SALUTE (and after it on the website), which offer a pack price-per-figure reduction also. |

wow, those GOT are sooooo nice. truly a work of art as opposed to toys. when you finally see a miniature sculpted in anatomically accurate proportions, it really ruins all the other ones you are used to(all the rest look like big head cartoons) please tell me you are planning a similar range in 15mm; I know about the planned 15mm vehicles
.would love some 15figures |
