If you want to try something a little different with the FT movement system, try plotting the movement two turns ahead instead of just one – engine damage & repairs taking an extra turn to "kick in" as it were. You start by plotting turns 1 & 2, then at the start of each turn after the first, you extend the plot another turn (eg start of turn 2 you plot turn 4's movement) using whatever your current thrust capabilities are. That *really* forces you to think ahead, and tends to avoid quite as many close passes as the regular rules produce.

I wouldn't play it that way all the time, but it's an interesting variant once in a while.
