Hi all, I'm doing up the little Italian Gd division for Wagram. Just wondering if anyone knows how many companies the Gd Grenadier, Chasseurs and Velites had per battalion?

For the system I play it makes a difference. It may be, they had 4 large companies per battalion as in the Frech Gd (from memory). I could find info for the uniform the but the organisation has proved more difficult…

Thanks for any help.

Try here:

It's a long url I dont'know if it will work.
Resume of Order of battle 8th may 1809 at Piave:

1 battalion of grenadiers
1 battalion of chasseur (cacciatori)
1 battalion of velites

Same units at Raab 14th June and Wagram:

Or if you can read French here:

Roughly Translated with Google:
- Grenadiers (Granatieri): 1 battalion formed in 1805, 5 companies of 100 men. He became a regiment in 1813 to 2 battalions to be disbanded in 1814.
- Hunters/Chasseurs (Cacciatori): 1 battalion formed in 1805 to 5 company of 100 men. Renamed in 1813 Carabinieri. Dissolved early 1813 to return to Russia.
- Velites (Velite): 1 regiment of 2 batallions, equivalent to the average Guard Française. 1st Granatieri battalion, 2nd Battalion Cacciatori (or Carabinieri from 1810).
- Conscripts (Coscritti), "Young Guard" Italian created in October 1810, first at 2 then 4 battalions. They resumed in 1813 on behalf of Hunters (Cacciatori).
- The Guard also understand a regiment of dragoons to 2 squads and 1 regiment of guards of honor in 4 companies (a fifth was created in 1806).

Hope this helps.
Ciao

My understanding at the time I "built" them was four companies for the Grenadiers and Chasseurs, but five for the Velites. All from memory so caveat emptor. :-)
