Nice stuff -- very nice stuff!

Great work as usual! I especially like the work on the faces of your figures.

Great stuff, Jeff!

Superb work on both figures. Wow – so Anti even dwarfs GB's Polemarch figs. Hmmm, that's good intel. As I have some 1st Corps Hetairoi that would appear close in size to the GB guys. Well, they didn't call him "Megas" for nothing, I suppose. Regards, Dean

Brilliant painting and great reviews, JJ! I've got Antiochus now I'll have to get Ptolemy.

Thanks for this, JJ. Nicely painted and great review.

In addition to your comments, it strikes me that the fingers on Ptolemy's raised hand appear unfortunately stubby. And in your comparison photo, the shortness of the neck of the Polemarch horse is clearly discernable; Antiochus' steed has it by a head!

Cheers, Simon

Very helpful advice, I may have to obtain Ptolomey afterall.

The effect on Antiochus was understated but most effective.

Jeff,

Gorgeous work!

Maybe Ptolemy's short fingers are related to his "wuss" status although sometimes "short fingers" just mean short fingers after all.

"the shortness of the neck of the Polemarch horse is clearly discernable"

-----> It is highly likely I will move this figure to an empty WotG Macedonian horse with leopard skin trappings… that horse is much more robust. But since I decided that this was to be an out of the box review (unlike the Antigonos figure which I modified), I left it as is. Interesting enough the WotG horse fits the rider better.
The Polemarch horses are not one of their very finest features, the trappings are meh, and the physical appearance a bit nag like. Overall their rank and file cavalry are far superior in a group setting. The Antigonid cavalry are nifty- but all have the sitting issue that needs putty work.

"short fingers" just mean short fingers after all.

-----> Well I did rather leave off the comment about Antiochus' fat hands, which could been a bit less like baseball mitts….and the typically engorged kopis that seems to be a problem for all figures today…
JJ

(he said engorged kopis….)

JJ There are, indeed, some huge choppers about!

Simon

"Bad technique but lethal"

Kopis reconstruction… 21" long sword-- not three feet (like a spatha) as expoused by WIKI….

"JJ There are, indeed, some huge choppers about!"

Not the least being this fellow, before Jeff's conversion:

Or the Dogs of War character that Jeff turned into Antigonos:

Jeff's got so much experience at paring down excessively engorged things, he should become a mohel!

I used to use that second linked DoW mini a lot, as a Roman, before the Crusader EIRs came out.

Antiochus' kopis looks inadequate next to these, though:

Proppa choppas!

I have always refused to buy those. I do have the ones with spears.

How about:

Those spathas make the Renegade cricket bats look positively puny!

I am glad to see that I am not the only one that has issues with spelling, if you guys remember my 'Polymephus'?

'Polemach'?

Nice work, figures and overall write up.

Mike

p.s. In the spirit of WAB and its warrior generals, that larger general on the table top is going to have your opponents thinking that its a super warrior.;^P
