SJD,

I thought that guy who plays Napoleon at reenactments was cast as Steiger?

14Bore22 Mar 2011 2:39 p.m. PST

Rich@ Yes today, HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY William Shatner

Captain Gideon22 Mar 2011 6:51 p.m. PST

SJDonovan what do you have against The GREAT Rod Steiger?

Captain Gideon

Grand Duke Natokina22 Mar 2011 10:00 p.m. PST

Yes, Happy Birthday, Mr Shatner.
Captain Gideon, I thought Steiger did a good job as Napoleon, but thought that Plummer was Wellington; his perfect Anglo-Irish snob was The Duke to the T!
Weaselhoffen.

3 Pages and nobody has cracked the 'Because William Shatner' Joke yet? I am very proud of you all.

Surely you need an agressive and charismatic Italian to play Napoleon.

James Gandolfini in Elevator Shoes.

He came from Corsica, he had a thirst for pillage
He studied war at Brienne College
That's where guns,
caught his eye

He told me that his piece was loaded
I said "in that case I'll have a whiff of grape shot"
He said "fire"
and in thirty seconds time he said,

I want to mow down the common people,
I want to turn the common people into goo
I want to mow down the common people,
like you

Chortle – very well played indeed but far too subtle for most…..

Chortle Fezian23 Mar 2011 5:49 a.m. PST

Thanks for noticing. It was with great difficulty I refrained from 'translating' the whole song.

Goldwyrm23 Mar 2011 7:36 a.m. PST

But who will play Blucher?

I'd submit Sacha Cohen as Borat as Blucher.

Grand Duke Natokina I'll agree with you about Plummer but I must say that Rod Steiger as Napoleon was GREAT IMHO.

The only other actor who played Napoleon that comes close to Rod Steiger's performance was the actor(can't think of name)in the movie AUSTERLITZ he was very good.

The only problem with Shatner playing Napoleon is that the Red shirt guys always died. Whereas as Napoleon it would have to be the blues.

"How's about Tom Cruise? He's the right size for it…"

Napoleon was about 5'7" tall or average height for a man of his time.

The misconception comes from the difference between Continental and English measure.

M C MonkeyDew24 Mar 2011 4:53 a.m. PST

Tom Cruise is about 5'7" too

Captain Gideon24 Mar 2011 9:31 a.m. PST

How about NOT HarmonWard with regards to Tom Cruise.

Much as I enjoyed Tom's performance in The Last Samurai he's NOT the actor to play the EMPEROR.

And I say again there's NO actor today can play Napoleon but you guys keep coming up with STUPID choices and you'll be wrong.

Gideon,

You really are taking this thread far too seriously!

M C MonkeyDew24 Mar 2011 12:06 p.m. PST

Russel Crow.

In fact he could play all the parts.

Supercilius Maximus24 Mar 2011 12:58 p.m. PST

There could be a scene where he throws a telephone at Roustam.

What about Gilbert Gottfried as Berthier? I'd tend to think he'd be perfect as the harried CoS…

M C MonkeyDew24 Mar 2011 3:30 p.m. PST

I said "Napoleon" and he said "Gilbert" and I said "Napoleon" and he said "Gilbert"I said "Napoleon" and he said "Gilbert" and I said "Napoleon" and he said "Gilbert"I said "Napoleon" and he said "Gilbert" and I said "Napoleon" and he said "Gilbert"I said "Napoleon" and he said "Gilbert" and I said "Napoleon" and he said "Gilbert"I said "Napoleon" and he said "Gilbert" and I said "Napoleon" and he said "Gilbert"I said "Napoleon" and he said "Gilbert" and I said "Napoleon" and he said "Gilbert"

Probably you need to be thinking about a sense of humour transplant.

Sane Max25 Mar 2011 2:50 a.m. PST

you do know the 20th century finished some time back – we don't need to cast real actors – do it using CGI Like James Cameron did. Napoleon can therefore be played by Napoleon – we have plenty of good likenesses, we could make a perfectly good CGI Napoleon. Just Blue. and 9 feet tall. with a bow and arrow and a comedy sidekick monkey. We could call the Monkey Gideon.

The resemblance is uncanny. (Zardoz was NOT involved with either of these photos!)

We could call the Monkey Gideon.

That's very unkind. grin

@ Sane Max

Who mentioned real actors? This is Bill Shatner we're talking about.

Captain Gideon25 Mar 2011 10:02 a.m. PST

Old Bear I don't need a humour transplant as my humour is very good and when I think something is funny I'll laugh and say it is.

Oh Sane Max I've not forgotten about you with your lame ass comment which was directed at me.

I'm just speaking my peace.

LOL I don't know about a humour transplant but I'm going to need a rib transplant if this goes on any longer. Priceless.
