I'm hoping to paint up my 15mm Marines in the near future and thought I'd revisit this topic. Has anyone done desert MARPAT? What paint/which colors did you use? Does anyone know of any sites with pics of painted figs with MARPAT or with a tutorial? I'm curious to see what different methods and colors produce.

So far most of my searches have taught me how to paint my airsoft guns, but not much on figs. Found a few, but they have been with the woodland version.

My only experiment thus far involved a desert sand/tan base coat and a couple rough drybrush coats with a light brown and a lighter brown, but the contrast was too high. thought I'd ask, before I mess up any more figs.

Anyway, I appreciate any help, thoughts, comment, etc.

Thanks,
irishserb

You're on the right track with the colors, but don't drybrush. Use a piece of sponge on the end of a brush and stipple the pattern on. There's a few tutorials on digi-patterns in the Ambush Alley Game forums.

I have a short stack of unpainted US Marines also. I was out on the net looking about a week ago and found the following. I don't recall where or by whom. If the author is lurking here, I apologize since I cannot give you credit. I believe I found it on either the Guild or Ambush Alley forums:

All Vallejo-
Deck Tan 986
Medium Grey 987
Khaki 988
English Uniform 921

Basecoat Deck Tan, then small dots of English Uniform, Medium Grey and Khaki to Make the pattern.

I have not tried it yet so I don't know how it comes out. However, that post was linked to another that included pictures. They looked nice. Good luck!

Once I get them painted up, I have some really neat Hummers for them to ride around in!

I've been trying to do the woodland MARPAT for almost 2 years nows…I guess I'll have to do desert instead..unless someone can show me woodland…

If you can, slip by a USMC recruiting office and pick up a couple of back issues of MARINES magazine. They have good pics of the gear and MARPAT Color pixellations…
