Something like this:

Or even simpler:

If so, any pics and tips?

1) Did you score balsa walls for timber effect, or build the walls out of thin sticks?
2) What did you use for the wood shingle effect?
3) How did you arrange the interior space?

Thanks,

Dan

Or should I just give up the crazy idea and go with something like this, without gluing down the roof?

Cacique Caribe,

Blue Moon Manufacturing has a number of log cabins with lift off roofs in our 15/18mm FIW range. Here is the link to the page they begin on:

I would definitely go with the Blue Moon ones.

Wow. That lean-to model has a lot of character!

I wonder what the interior dimensions are.

That is an excellent building. A buddy of mine bought a couple of those and it is really nice. I'll see if I can't get him to post interior dimensions.

Though not perfect you could go for link

Just be aware that the farmhouse from Hovels hovelsltd.co.uk/acw15mm.htm does nto have the removable roof.

I've built several over the years as I couldn't find any with removable roofs. I quite like what I've seen of the Blue Moon range and had they been available would have bought them.

They are quite easy to build and this is what I used to make mine:
1) Did you score balsa walls for timber effect, or build the walls out of thin sticks?
I used thin skewers or some square toothpicks. I was lazy and didn't clinker the walls. This is something I may do next time.

2) What did you use for the wood shingle effect?
Thin card and more recently laser cut sheets of thick paper with adhesive backing from Rusty Stumps. These were glued onto thick card.
I used the laser cut sheets on this cabin:

This one uses thin card for the shingles:

3) How did you arrange the interior space?
Mine are just painted black. I have seen some filled with furnature which looks good, but I didn't bother.

This is another cabin I've made but with a sod/thach roof

Hope this helps.

No, but I made a 10mm one with a removable roof. a 15mm cabin with removable roof would be MUCH easier I would think.

However, until I can get my work area set up from the hasty tactical withdrawal, I am not taking on any new projects.

as for construction:

matte board cube
bamboo skewers cut to langth and glued on outside
heavy card doors
aquarium gravel chimney

the roof was matte board with skewers at the gables (the chimney was two pieces, top and bottom), and the shingles were heavy card

Awesome suggestions. I have a huge box of wood dowels, bamboo skewers and other goodies.

Let me give those suggestions a try. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks,

Dan
