Here's something I completed recently. SMS Von der Tann. The 1/1600 scale is odd, I know. I originally go with 1/1800 with the idea of making [Great] War at Sea equivalents of the plastic collectible WW2 minis but it was easier to build slightly larger.

Looks fantastic you deserve to be pleased – looks better than most commercially produced kits

Excellent work Steve! The detail is wonderful, you must have a lot of patience.

taskforce5825 Feb 2011 11:33 a.m. PST

Beautiful! Not counting the paint job, how long did it take you to build it?

CorporalTrim25 Feb 2011 12:26 p.m. PST

Thanks, guys ! I didn't carefully track the build time but it took between 1-2 weeks and a couple more days to paint.

Wonderful work! What is the main hull made from?

ptdockyard27 Feb 2011 7:28 a.m. PST

Nice. How did you make the gun barrels with the stepped diameters?

CorporalTrim27 Feb 2011 6:30 p.m. PST

Thanks again, gentlemen. :)

Bill,
The main hull is basswood, in 1/16" layers.

ptdockyard,
I stepped the 11" guns with paper over the brass. The real guns were stepped 3x but some compromises had to be made given the scale.
