I've just finished up my RRtK review and have posted it to my blog. Enjoy!

Nice work.

Thanks John, I just bought the rules a couple of weeks ago (pdf). Have not read them yet, but am a fan of Warrior Kings and played it solo several times, which is the reason I bought RRTK. Did you see any substantial differences from Warrior Kings or are you familiar with them?

Thanks, acarhj. I have been on the fence on this one. I am still looking for something to fit this niche, and since Ganesha looks to never get around to releasing their own mass-combat rules, I am thinking of finally picking these up.

Not too different. I am familiar with WK but not familiar enough to say exactly what is different. I know that the missile combat system was changed to the 2D6+1 or 2 for the formed units and you could no longer outnumber enemies with missile fire.

The game is formatted a lot better than THW earlier work and does include some artwork in the form of line drawings. Andrea from Ganesha Games did most (all?) of those.

I am sure there are other differences but going to the Yahoo Group would probably get you the best answer.

There is one other thing I just thought of…the reaction tables now fit on a single page front and back. There is another table for for combat movement and magic which fits on a single page front and back as well. Definitly better than the earlier game!

How would you compare RRTK with In Death Ground?

How would you compare RRTK with In Death Ground?

Very different games. IDG has a few similarties to DBA or even Chipco's Days of Knights with respect to combat mechanics but the scope is that of a larger scale game with multi-stand units such as Medieval Warfare (Gore) and Field of Glory (Slitherine).

RRtK is more of an element based game where 1 stand is 1 unit. The game mechanics are very different from just about anything out there especially with regard to the reaction system.

RE: the differences between Warrior Kings and RRtK – They are not many, John has mentioned the missile change and re-format. The other difference is some the reaction results have been tweaked. e.g. In WK, Melee wanting to charge passing one die would continue to charge+1 hit. in RRtK, this has changed to dual armed halt, rest contnue to charge.

Also, although I have not played it, the Campaign rules changed.
Terrain setup changed.
Army lists are a bit different.

That's all that I can remember that stick in my head.
