On another thread a couple of posters wrote that they don't notice the banner ads on TMP. I happen to not only notice them, I like many of them. I also enjoy how the banner ads are targeted sometimes to the board I happen to be reading. This is the one site where I actually like the advertising. I have even clicked on links to visit and buy from some of the advertisers.

Do you take notice of the banner ads?
1. Yes
2. Yes, but needs more boobies
3. No, but I would if they had more boobies
4. No

1 too.

Stronty Girl Fezian11 Feb 2011 8:16 a.m. PST

1. It's such a welcome change to see banner ads about something I'm interested in, instead of Bleeped text about miracle diets or car insurance.

Angel Barracks11 Feb 2011 8:22 a.m. PST

1, yes I see them, but rarely click on them.

Jovian111 Feb 2011 8:26 a.m. PST

This site has banner ads?

adub7411 Feb 2011 8:26 a.m. PST

1 -- Yes, I noticed them more initially. I learned about a lot of the companies by clicking on them. They became less valuable after I gained a little experience. I do notice the new ones as long as they stand out.

Steve Hazuka11 Feb 2011 8:28 a.m. PST

Yes and I click on them too.

Plynkes11 Feb 2011 8:32 a.m. PST

They are one of the better-implemented features of this site. That they mostly relate directly to the board you are on is rather cool.

Still don't recall ever actually clicking on one, though.

Mooseworks811 Feb 2011 8:40 a.m. PST

Yes

Joep12311 Feb 2011 8:42 a.m. PST

#1;
I do also like that they usually pertain to the board I'm visiting.
I do occasionally visit them or will remember that I saw a particular product in a banner and go back to look later on.

Yes.

John the OFM11 Feb 2011 8:48 a.m. PST

Definitely. And as Plynkes says, they are often themed to the topic.

JRacel11 Feb 2011 8:51 a.m. PST

1. Yes

TodCreasey11 Feb 2011 8:51 a.m. PST

Click on them all of the time especially as they are very good at tying a search to the company that comes up

paulkit11 Feb 2011 8:57 a.m. PST

1. Yes. I just noticed ours had to be updated :-(

1. and I do click on them as well.

MajorB11 Feb 2011 9:04 a.m. PST

I'm more likely to notice news items and threads on the boards than banner ads.
Moral of the story is probably "both … and" rather than "either/or".

"This site has banner ads?"

Exactly. Never notice them.

4.

Tommy2011 Feb 2011 9:10 a.m. PST

Yes. This is about the only website where I don't totally ignore them.

consectari11 Feb 2011 9:19 a.m. PST

Yes, very much so.

They have frequently lead me to companies and miniatures I didn't know existed. The banners also serve as a reminder of companies I want to buy from when the $$$ becomes available.

Scorpio11 Feb 2011 9:40 a.m. PST

I have many complaints about the site's design, but I can only compliment the advertising here. Which is a very weird thing to say.

PygmaelionAgain11 Feb 2011 9:42 a.m. PST

I notice them, and if they show me a figure, bit of terrain, or ruleset/genre that's interesting enough I click on them.

Likewise, if there's a painting service with a positively awful looking figure shown, I click. Now, I don't have use for a painting service. I bought myself into this mess and I don't feel I should buy my way out… but morbid curiosity about how much folks are charging for a blobby faced badly photographed figure is too much to look away from.

Glad you noticed. Each webpage is tagged for its content, and the advertising banners match the subject matter.

1 and I visit sites which they advertise…

raylev311 Feb 2011 9:57 a.m. PST

I have addblock+ and it blocks TMP ads. Even when turned off I do not notice the ads on TMP. I know the manufacturers anyway. The PR releases are of more interest and effect for me.

Titchmonster11 Feb 2011 11:50 a.m. PST

However, I agree stongly with number 2.
Boobies improve everything.

1!

Frequently click on anything that looks interesting, and I have made purchases because of a banner ad.

Way I see it… if you're visiting a site about miniatures… and somebody shows you a picture of some miniatures… and your interest isn't piqued…

…you're doing "being interested in miniatures" wrong.

Sundance11 Feb 2011 1:18 p.m. PST

I like the pretty pictures on some of them, but it's not like they make me want to buy anything.

Well played Norman, well played.

Kelly Armstrong11 Feb 2011 4:16 p.m. PST

I don't notice ads or polls, or, err, wait, except maybe this one, and ads if I am interested. Oh, I don't know. I'll go with #2.

Jamesonsafari11 Feb 2011 4:23 p.m. PST

2 I always click through if there are boobies.

Farstar11 Feb 2011 5:20 p.m. PST

Notice, yes.
Click through? Rarely.

AGamer11 Feb 2011 5:45 p.m. PST

1, and click through on a regular basis.

Allen5711 Feb 2011 9:47 p.m. PST

Yes. Everything needs more boobies.
