Well, it's been about a year and a half since the last time anyone asked, so I guess I'll give it a shot: is this company defunct or is it just gaming's equivalent of J.D. Salinger? The reason I ask is that I recently obtained a small pile of their 20mm War of 1812 miniatures and wouldn't mind getting my hands on a few more. I already know about the fan-operated website and I sent off a letter to Minnesota (with SASE) about a month ago but have not received a reply as yet. Am I wasting my time? LT |

Well, a month may not be enough time for him to respond. The gent is a very nice guy. However, I refuse to deal with anyone that doesn't have a way aside from snail mail for me to do business with. Combine that with the fact that his figs don't fit with any other range out there means if he's out of business I wouldn't miss any sleep. Thanks, John |

Always liked the sculpts and ranges, never brought myself to but because I knew I'd have to buy everything at once so I knew I wouldn't have to re-order or struggle to find ranges that would complement them

Seriously
it'd be nice to know, for those gearing up for the bicentennial. Old school figs, but complete enough range to do justice for the conflict; until Blue Moon, some of the best native american figures for the large 15mm 'unique' FP&B 20mm. |

Does FP&B win any kind of prize for oddest name for a miniatures company ever?? What were the company names they rejected Guns and Buns?? Guys with Stuff?? I have seen some of them and they are old fashioned but certainly not crummy!! |

Man, I thought they went out of business years ago. Maybe he is like Bigfoot and Frontier Minis

It's the upcoming bicentennial that got me started on this search. Every year the National Park Service puts on a living history event at Chalmette National Battlefield on the anniversary of the battle of New Orleans; a couple of us want to put together a demo/public participation wargame that ties into this. The actual battle is probably not optimal for this type of display – who wants to play the British? – but the night battle on Dec 23, 1814 is pretty much perfect, what with units getting lost in the dark, friendly troops firing on each other, people wandering into the middle of enemy units and being captured, Old Hickory coming within seconds of being captured by the Rifles, and so on. Frying Pan & Blanket's 1812 line is comprehensive and includes all the different troops I'd need to do this game. Since the FP&B miniatures I have were actually purchased at the Chalmette Battlefield visitor center, I'm hoping I can assassinate a brace avians with one projectile. Demo games like this have been very successful at the National WWII Museum here in New Orleans both as an educational tool and for raising public awareness about gaming and I'd like to do something similar at Chalmette; I'd also like to encourage the visitor center to continue to stock gaming-related items, which will be easier if the miniatures they already have a small number of on the shelves are still available. In all seriousness, you might ask over on Bartertown; it's amazing what folks have tucked away not being used. |

You could also post your request on the Minnesota Miniatures Gaming Association yahoo list. Someone might point this thread out to them. |

I like the name "Guys With Stuff" for a miniatures company. LOL! |

Technically, it's Frying Pan & Blanket Amalgamated. I have quite a lot of their SYW infantry: Austrians and Prussians and a couple of French and British units. |

I have Rebel and Crown armies of their AWI stuff. I'm still waiting for them to finally make Hessian Jagers. |

Amalgamated means mixed together so I guess there was once a Frying Pan line and a Blanket Line, or maybe the name was chosen so it would be hard to forget and still be referred to in the future, like now, by silly old wargamers like me, when nearly everyone else has either forgot about it or never heard of it in the first place! Guess that worked, and still not the worst stuff either! |

Slightly off-topic, but how many remember that "RSM" originally stood for "Rusty Scabbard Miniatures"? -- Jeff

I seem to recall that from somewhere myself! |

I do. My buddy Rob used to go to the Rusty Scabbard a long time ago. Thanks, John |

For those who still care, the answer to my question is "yes, they are" as confirmed by my receipt in today's mail of my self-addressed stamped envelope containing their current catalog (which looks pretty much like the one on the fan-operated website). Now, to send them a sizable check and, I assume, wait a long time. LT |
