Hi, Does anyone know of a good reference book or web site covering uniform colours for WSS Spanish Regiments in the Spanish Netherlands? thanks |

That's tough. There is a book by Hinde. I'm not sure what to make of it. It isn't footnoted. Don't know about the sources. You can get some info from Giancarlo Boeri's book on the Spanish armies 1688-1697 because he talks about what some were wearing later, but his focus is on the NYW. |

The CS Grant Book, Armies and Uniforms of Marlboroughs Wars Vol2 (I got mine from Caliver) has a decent section on Spanish with some background and uniform/regt colours |

OK, this might be a little late and is Spain rather than Netherlands but it is excellent and free: link |

It's great, but it is Catalonian units, not Spanish. |

Try this one – link Won't be much on uniforms but you will get organizational info. I picked up a few of the Robert Hall plates from On Military Matters which show Spanish Netherlands foot & horse. Then there is that CD by Giancarol Boerias well as Saperson, C.A. ARMIES OF SPAIN, 1701-1715, again available from OMM. |

freddy326; In addition to the printed sources listed above (all excellent), and the excellent spanishsuccession.nl web site, you might also try the "Spanish Tercio" web site published by Dr. Pierre Picouet. The adds are extremely annoying, but if you follow the links to the section on "Weapons and Uniforms" there are 3 plates drawn from numerous sources (most mentioned above), and the plates are divided into sections by where the Tercio was stationed. Plate number 2 shows the 10 Tercio's stationed in Flanders during the period 1682 to 1700. link Granted, this is prior to the start of the WSS, but should give a reasonable indication of troops available at the start of hostilities. Dr. Picouet's site also has excellent information on the formations and tactics of the Tercio's and most of their Continental opposition. An excellent reference site. There is also a section with some very good battle descriptions with good maps and OoB's. Again, well worth bookmarking. Bill Sir William the Aged warsoflouisxiv.blogspot.com |
