Prompted by a recent post on horse mounted special forces in Afghanistan. I'm interested to hear if any insurgent groups used horse mounted units? I know the Rhodesians used mounted Greys scouts and the Portuguese also used dragoons in Africa. Are there example of insurgents doing the same? If not, why not?

Cheers,

Andy

Afghans used them and just as recent as last week the Egyptians charged into town on camel and horses. So yes I'll make my appeal once again…give us modern horse mounted troops!

Thanks Stepman3, Hadn't heard about the Egyptians. I wonder if it would work as a Eureka 100 club suggestion? I'm not personally interested in gaming Afghanistan, but have some of the Eureka Rhodesians already and it would seem a natural extension to that range.

Kosta does intend to add Greys Scouts to the range, when he finds the time in his very busy schedule.

BSAP used horse mounted troops. My father was one for a period early on.

Thanks everyone:
Nic, I'll look out for those and place an order when they become available.

Terrement, thanks, I enjoyed the film "intimate enemies". I'll have to do some more reading on the Algerian conflict.

Goose666, that's interesting to hear about the BSAP, I had no idea they used mounted troops as well. Unfortunately the mounted Rhodesian operations don't seem to be recorded in any of the books I can find about Rhodesia. Any idea if there are any books on that subject?

Cheers,

Andy

Hi-oh, Silver! Away!

Say, who was that masked insurgent?

I don't know, but he left behind this silver AK-47 magazine.

There were real, big, cavalry charges by the insurgents against the Taliban in fixed positions.

in one of the bond films theres a load of Mujahidin on horseback in Afghanistan :) For Your Eyes Only, maybe? They haven't been airing it recently. Can't think why.

I will see what we have in our book collection and what my father can recommend.

Read the 'Horse Soldiers". Great book about the SF operators in Afghanistan…
