hi, putting the final toutches to this unit and have hit a snag, what colour would there waffenfarbe be? as in SS units from what I can tell it could be white – motorised infantry golden yellow – recce copper brown – recce upto 1942 or for Heer troops white – motorised infantry meadow green – motorcycle battalions rose pink – recce attached to panzer units gloden yellow – recce with a cavalry tradition or motorcyles copper brown – motorcycle units from 1941 – 1943 which is probably most correct? thanks jon |

Well, I hope someone would stop me and tell me if my pink waffenfarbes were showing. How embarrassing. Wikipedia says link |

After a couple of days on the road, the color would be France. As in dust. |

It depends what sort of unit they belong to. Some panzer-grenadier regiments (such as those of 12th SS in 1944) had integral companies, who would wear the white waffenfarbe of their parent regiment. Those belonging to a recce battalion would wear the appropriate colour. You need to decide first what the parent unit is and what sort of formations it belongs to before you can decide what the branch colour is. |

Thanks! However, you still need to know if they belong to a regimental Kradschutzen company or to a divisional recce battalion or motorcycle battalion before you can determine what the branch colour would be. |

Mark, thanks for that info on attached vs parent unit
I've been wondering about such things for my Grossdeutschland units in France 40 (stug unit and recon units) Since the Stugs were attached, they would then be their inherent color (scarlet) and the integral recon units with the regiment would be white? (I'll dig out my reference on GD in 40 to try and find out which units were attached) Chris |

"hi, these are for SS troops for france and greece" It depends which SS units then. SSVT had both regimental and divisional motorcycle units in France, SSTK only had a dvisional recce battalion with mcycles and SSLAH only had a regimental mcycle company. Unless I've misread my Niehorster. Not sure of their status in Greece. |

ok, I think I have it – my late war unit is LSSAH so for ease that would be the easiest and most probable unit, sorry for draging this out. jon |
