All I have seen is grainy, far-away video of two jets flying a little low, not very, over Cairo. Has anyone seen better quality images that show exactly what the planes were?

F16's?

Most likely – about half of their fighters are Vipers, although they also have Phantoms, Mirage V and 2000, MiG-21 and Chengdu J7 in lesser numbers.

Just saw good quality footage on Al Jazeera, definitely F-16's with several helo's as well (Gazelle's and Mi-17's).

To add, just noticed a large number of M1's arriving on the streets of Cairo for the first time (only M60's seen previously). Also appears the military may be getting prepared for some kind of action, though I doubt they will follow orders to crack down on the protesters if Mubarak orders it.

Good answers, thanks.

I saw M113's in the streets in the media.

I think the military is playing it exactly right. Show a presence on the street to dissuade arson and violence, but not taking sides and not cracking down (i.e., no Tiananmen Square).

The situation just needs one more little incident to push things over, like an assault on Mubarak's presidential police or a defection of a security unit to the defectors…

There was some machinegun fire heard on a recent live broadcast a little while ago (labeled as HMG fire by the newscasters, and it did go on for quite a few long bursts).

Not sure if they are firing on anyone, or just into the air to scare people away.

Sounds like with the jets sortieing, they are trying to get the attention of the protesters, in order to get them to disburse.

"disburse"(?)

…meant disperse, obviously.
