Writing in a recent issue of the Journal of the SOTCW, Dr. Keith Anderson comments: Scenery for larger scales is easy to find, but beyond the obvious houses and trees you have to look much harder for anything in 1/300 scale. Do you agree? * yes, it's hard to find * no, not hard to find * not interested in 1:300 scale scenics |

Easy to find, just not masses of it. |

Not hard to find and there is actually a fair bit of it about
GHQ, Irregular, Simply 6, JR Terrain, Timecast and others I can't remember just now

I don't agree at all, as far as I am concerned there is more than ample product available. Mike |
Pierce Inverarity | 27 Jan 2011 11:45 a.m. PST |
Not hard to find, but lacking in variety outside of the core Nappy/Normandy periods. |

To scale with 6mm figs? In my searches for scenery for my Baccus Romans and Dacians, I've found tons of WWII stuff, or stuff that would be fitting from 18th Century A.D. on, but very little for ancients, aside from going the paper route with Roman Seas. (Which is a possibility.) |
Pierce Inverarity | 27 Jan 2011 11:58 a.m. PST |
Yes, beyond Irregular it's slim pickings with Ancients. An enterprising company might consider doing a full range of of Ancients resins, rather than the umptieth Normandy cottage. |

No, there is loads on the market. Unfortunately not much variety and nearly all 17th Century onwards or sci-fi. Fortunately scratchbuilding in 1/300 is pretty easy. |

Yes, ignore my post. I thought it asked about 1:600 6mm stuff is everywhere and there is shed loads of it. Wink Wink!

Very easy to find, great range, lots of good manufacturers who don't nick your credit card details

Nope – not really hard in my view. Always nice to have more, of course, particularly in ancients, but there's not really a scarcity. Doug |

I agree that it's pretty easy to find, but what's there does have a heavy 20th century bias, with pre-gunpowder being a lot less readily available. |

I would say that Napoleonics/ ACW onwards is pretty ubiquitous, with stuff appropriate for WWII being the most common; Modern and Sci-Fi are pretty well represented now too – it is the 17th Century backward that is a little thin on the ground – Far Eastern, Ancient and Medieval needing more exposure please! Pierce Inverarity's comment above about no more Normandy cottages is spot on IMHO. |

Not as much 6mm as I'd like. I've been forced to have things made. |

Plenty for WWII games
not so much for sci-fi or fantasy. But like others point out, it's easy to make good looking 6mm scenery. Still, if someone made sprues of 6mm architectural elements
something like the building kits GW offers (except that horrid tower!)
I'd sell off another unborn child to get them. |
jfleisher | 27 Jan 2011 5:28 p.m. PST |
So would I. I'm still on the hunt for good 6mm modern urban buildings. |
Sundance | 27 Jan 2011 6:05 p.m. PST |
Not too bad, but not a lot of variety. I like PaperTerrain's 1/300 kits because they offer lots of buildings with a little variation for about the same price of a couple of resin or metal buildings. |

There used to be a fairly comprehensive range of resin scenery for Battletech. I can't remember whether Iron Wind Metals still sell it. Forge World sell some resin airbase buildings for use with Epic and Aeronautica Imperialis. GZG used to have quite a comprehensive range, although again, not sure if they still do. J R Miniatures ( jrminiatures.net ) have a range of 1:285 European, Middle East and Sci Fi buildings. The former is basically WW2 Russian Front, but a thatched farmhouse could cover a period of about a thousand years. |

I have some of the larger JR miniatures buildings, which are very nice. But quite frankly, the quality on their smaller items is not wonderful. I have all the 1/300 buildings that IWM offers, which is about 3. GZG's are nice, just very hard to find now, and more sci-fi than modern. I'll take a look at TBM, thanks Ssendam. |

Most of the scifi stuff I've got is from Old Crow, which are very nice. Other than that it's mostly ruins (the Epic plastic stuff) or hand-made. |

Tonnes of it around. The guy must be on drugs. |

Interesting topic but it is hardly a question for a poll. It's either true or it aint. |

I have found quite a bit of paper terrain for 6mm scale. GHQ has some free buildings on its web site, and Paper Terrain makes quite a bit of good looking buildings. |
