I saw the movie last night imdb.com/title/tt0762125 and while I had little hope for the film, I was bored and sculpting so I wanted some background noise and an eye break rolling.

The movie is what it is, an animated kid's movie but the design of the alien tech had a great commonality and that is the point of this thread…the potential for the alien tech as miniatures for gaming.

The Alien tank looks particularly fun (though everyone knows hover tanks suck.. )

I watched this with my daughter and we had fun with it. I enjoyed the role reversal of the film.

But I really liked the round hovering tanks. I thought about going looking for any toys they might have made for them. But it was back burner project that I haven't found the time for.

My son has the diecast vehicles of the tank, jeep, and truck. There was also a police car and a van in the series.

Last time I checked Toys R Us had them on clearance.

One of these days we will use them in a game.

I am entranced, the bad Idea abound….

And John Hover tanks don't suck… THEY BLOW!…. Heh, actually they do both…

I watched the movie the other day also. Got me thinking.. but no… too many other things on the boil.

The book, "The Art of Planet 51", is fun to go through and see all the designs. It covers the townscapes, vehicles, landscapes…and of course the locals themselves, the alien and his hardware, and "Humaniacs" material. It was a nice addition to my "Art of…" book collection.

As far as gaming, well the folks on Planet 51 had an army for a reason, perhaps there's some other folks that have a different system of government/economics…other folks to be scared of…folks that are Red.

Gotta say, the human bot from the movie would make a marvellous drone or light AFV…Perhaps with that sphere 'head' being an optical laser weapon?

I have the small version of the tank and military truck. I must find two more, so I can field a squadron.

The Tank is ideal for 15mm, if a bit tall, and the truck is about SmartCar sized for 25mm.

Cool, must find the tanks. Did they make the cars. I really like the Caddy.

GiantMonster21 Jan 2011 12:26 p.m. PST

The toys are hard to come by now in stores. Last time I saw some of the diecast cars was at TRU during x-mas for $1.98 USD a 2 pack.

Here is a link showing some pictures of the small diecast and larger action figure vehicles.

LOL.

The astronaut is going to be in lots of trouble when that little xenomorph pet stowaway starts peeing inside the ship.
