Hi all, I've been looking for references for the livery colours and insignias of Salisbury's and Rutland's followers at the battle of Wakefield. Can anyone provide me with any help? Many thanks, Rob |

The Neville Household reenactment group use a red livery coat with a white Ragged Staff: link The Living History reenactor's forum lists Rutland's livery as Murrey (red-purple) & Blue. |

Norman has given you sound advice. If you using 28mm miniatures, CitadelSix Custom Design do some nice decals for the various nobles from the conflict. Email me through the editor if need any more info on all things roses. |

According to 'Standards,Badges and livery colours of the Wars of the Roses' by Pat Mcgill and Jonathan Jones: Earl of Rutland: Badge- a peacock :Livery- Azure and Murrey Richard Neville, Earl of Salisbury: Badges- A Griffin sejant, wings displayed Or. Eagles wings displayed Vert. They also suggest the banner was St George in the hoist. Field Gules over Sable, a border company Gules and Sable. Motto: Ne Vile Velis The first colour mentioned is uppermost on a banner/flag, or right on a coat. Coats could be quartered or halved. IE the colour could be in the same order viewed front and back if quartered. Hope this is helpful – its a booklet well worth getting! |
