men who were trappers and explorers who roamed the North American Rocky Mountains — from about 1810 through the 1880s (with a peak population in the early 1840s) where they were instrumental in opening up the various Emigrant Trails (widened into wagon roads) allowing Americans in the east to settle the new territories of the far west by organized wagon trains traveling over roads explored and in many cases, physically improved by the mountain men and the big fur companies originally to serve the mule train based inland fur trade.

They arose in a natural geographic and economic expansion driven by the lucrative earnings available in the North American fur trade, in the wake of the various 1806–07 published accounts of the Lewis and Clark expeditions' (1803–1806) findings about the Rockies and the (ownership disputed) Oregon Country where they flourished economically for over three decades.

By the time the two new international treaties in early 1846 and early 1848 respectively[1] settled new western coastal territories officially on the United States and spurred a large upsurge in migration, the days of many Mountain men making a good living by fur trapping had become a thing of the past as the industry was a failing subsistence because of over trapping activity vice the lucrative boom business it once been. Fortuitously, America's ongoing western migration by wagon train with the goal of claiming cheap lands in the west was however building rapidly from a trickle of settlers from 1841's opening of the Oregon Trail (now a wagon road) to a flood of emigrants…(click)

can occur together as cleft lip and palate, are variations of a type of clefting congenital deformity caused by abnormal facial development during gestation. A cleft is a fissure or opening—a gap. It is the non-fusion of the body's natural structures that form before birth. Approximately 1 in 700 children born have a cleft lip and/or a cleft palate. An older term is harelip, based on the similarity to the cleft in the lip of a hare.

Clefts can also affect other parts of the face, such as the eyes, ears, nose, cheeks, and forehead. In 1976, Paul Tessier described fifteen lines of cleft. Most of these craniofacial clefts are even more rare and are frequently described as Tessier clefts using the numerical locator devised by Tessier.

ate on a particular obsessive attachment, this is a fixation or a defensible expression of love is at times debatable.

Fixation to intangibles (i.e., ideas, ideologies, etc.) can also occur. The obsessive factor is also found in symptoms pertaining to obsessive compulsive disorder, which psychoanalysts linked to 'pregenital fixations' whether caused by 'an alternation of unusual gratifications and unusual frustrations…[or] a concurrence of instinctual gratifications with security gratifications'.

As Freud's thought developed, so too did 'the notion of a succession of possible "fixation points"' during development, and of 'the relation between this succession of fixation points and the choice of neurosis'. However he continued to view fixation as 'the manifestation of very early linkages – linkages which it is hard to resolve – between instincts and impressions and the objects involved in those impressions'.

Fixation has been compared to the way 'if you walk in front of a little chick at a certain time in the chick's life he'll follow you…there's a particular time when he gets "set"'. Such 'filial imprinting…at a particular stage early in life…a "sensitive period" in development' might seem a ready explanation for the human phenomenon of fixation.

Freud, however, 'wanted to loosen, not tighten, the link between libido and its objects', and always looked for more specific causes for any given…(click)

Gigolo is a 1980 crime drama film, written and directed by Paul Schrader. It is informally considered the second installment in his "lonely man" trilogy, following the Martin Scorsese directed Taxi Driver (1976) and preceding Light Sleeper (1992).

Julian Kaye (Richard Gere) is a male prostitute in Los Angeles whose job supports his expensive taste in cars, stereophonic equipment, and clothes. He is, at times, blatantly narcissistic and superficial; however, he claims to take some pleasure in his work from being able to sexually satisfy women.

When on an assignment for his primary procuress, Anne (Nina Van Pallandt), he meets Michelle Stratton (Lauren Hutton), the unhappy wife of a local politician, who becomes interested in him. Julian's other pimp, Leon (Bill Duke), sends him to the house of a financier, Mr. Rheiman, who asks Julian to physically abuse and copulate with his wife while he watches them.

As Julian begins to get to know Michelle, he learns that the financier's wife, Mrs. Rheiman, was murdered. Los Angeles Police Department Detective Sunday (Hector Elizondo) investigates Julian as a primary suspect. Though he was with a client, Lisa Williams (K Callan), on the night of the murder, the client refuses to give Julian an alibi…(click)

are a religious sect originally thought to be a development of the Religious Society of Friends. Founded upon the teachings of Ann Lee, Shakers today are mostly known for their cultural contributions (especially style of music and furniture).

However, the Shakers' enduring legacy includes their model of equality of the sexes (or gender equality), which they institutionalized in their society in the 1780s.

The Shakers were one of several religious groups that formed in eighteenth-century England. New communities of "charismatic" Christians also took shape during this time. One of the most important of these new movements was the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, or the Shakers.

While their monastic, communitarian life has been studied extensively, little attention has been given to Shaker preaching, particularly in the early days of the order. The first members of the group were known as "Shaking Quakers" because of the ecstatic nature of their worship services. Begun in 1747, the members looked to women for leadership. Jane Wardley and Ann Lee were the most important.

Jane Wardley was an articulate preacher…(click)

in his blindness bows down to wood and stone;
He don't obey no orders unless they is his own;
He keeps his side-arms awful: he leaves them all about,
And then up comes the Regiment and pokes the heathen out.

All along of dirtiness, all along of mess,
All along of doing things rather-more-or-less,
All along of abby-nay, kul , and hazer-ho,
Mind you keep your rifle and yourself just so!

The young recruit is haughty—he drafts from God knows where;
They bid him show his stockings and lay his mattress square;
He calls it bloomin' nonsense—he doesn't know, no more—
And then up comes his Company and kicks him round the floor!

The young recruit is hammered—he takes it very hard;
He hangs his head and mutters—he sulks about the yard;
He talks of "cruel tyrants" which he'll swing for by-and-by,
And the others hear and mock him, and the boy goes off to cry.

The young recruit is silly—he thinks of suicide.
He's lost his gutter-devil; he hasn't got his pride;
But day by day they kicks him, which helps him on a bit,
Till he finds himself one morning with a full an' proper kit.

Getting clear of dirtiness, getting done with mess,
Getting shut of doing things rather-more-or-less;
Not so fond of abby-nay, kul, nor hazar-ho,
Learns to keep his rifle and himself just so!

The young recruit is happy—he throws a chest to suit;
You see him grow mustaches; you hear him slap his boot.
He learns to drop the "bloodies" from every word he slings,
And he shows a healthy brisket when he strips for bars and rings.

The cruel-tyrant-sergeants they watch him half a year;
They watch him with his comrades, they watch him with his beer;
They watch him with the women at the regimental dance,
And the cruel-tyrant-sergeants send his name along for "Lance".

And now he's half of nothing, and all a private yet,
His room they up and rag him to see what they will get.
They rag him low and cunning, each dirty trick they can,
But he learns to sweat his temper and he learns to sweat his man.

And, last, a Colour-Sergeant, as such to be obeyd,
He schools his men at cricket, he tells them on parade;
They see him quick and handy, uncommon set and smart,
And so he talks to officers which have the Corps at heart.

He learns to do his watching without it showing plain;
He learns to save a dummy, and shove him straight again;
He learns to check a ranker that's buying leave to shirk;
And he learns to make men like him so they'll learn to like their work.

And when it comes to marching he'll see their socks are right,
And when it comes to action he shows them how to sight.
He knows their way of thinking and just what's in their mind;
He knows when they are taking on and when they fall behind.

He knows each talking corporal that leads a squad astray;
He feels his innards heaving, his bowels giving way;
He sees the blue-white faces all trying hard to grin,
And he stands and waits and suffers till it's time to cap them in.

And now the ugly bullets come pecking through the dust,
And no one wants to face them, but every beggar must;
So like a man in irons, which isn't glad to go,
They move them off by companies uncommon stiff and slow.

Of all his five years schooling they don't remember much
Except the not retreating, the step and keeping touch.
It looks like teaching wasted when they duck and spread and hop-
But if he hadn't taught them they'd be all about the shop.

And now it's "Who goes backward?" and now it's "Who comes on?"
And now it's "Get the doolies," and now the Captain's gone;
And now it's bloody murder, but all the while they hear
His voice, the same as barracks-drill, shepherding the rear.

He's just as sick as they are, his heart is like to split,
But he works them, works them, works them till he feels them take the bit;
The rest is holding steady till the watchful bugles play,
And he lifts them, lifts them, lifts them through the charge that wins the day.

The heathen in his blindness bows down to wood …

coffee materials are available every day from my local Starbucks is free. I usually get between 50-100 lbs. of grounds per day. Most go in my compost piles, but sometimes I just spread them in the garden.

I live in Ventura County, California where the soil is very alkaline and very dense clay. When I moved to my house a year and a half ago, there were very few worms in my soil. Now, after adding several tons of coffee grounds and compost, my soil is full of worms and the pH has improved dramatically with no additional amendments. With the number of worms I have now, I feel guilty I'm killing thousands each time I walk in the garden!

I also get woodchips from local tree trimmers for free. They deliver by the truckload and I mix the woodchips with the coffee grounds to make incredible compost. I highly recommend that everyone who reads this establish a relationship with their local Starbucks and take some of those grounds away.

Starbucks alone produces enough coffee waste to equal 4 747's per year in weight. That material should all be going back into the earth where it belongs, rather than into landfills. Coffee grounds work wonders in the garden. I've gotten used coffee grounds from the Starbucks in Los Altos, California and put them throughout my garden.

local boy Danny Zuko and vacationing Sandy Olson meet at the beach and fall in love. When the summer comes to an end, Sandy, who is going back to Australia, frets that they may never meet again, but Danny tells her that their love is "only the beginning".

The film moves to the start of the seniors' term at Rydell High School. Danny, a greaser, is a member of the T-Birds, consisting of his best friend Kenickie, Doody, Putzie and Sonny. Meanwhile, the Pink Ladies arrive, consisting of Betty Rizzo, Frenchie, Jan and Marty to "rule the school".

After her parents decided not to return to Australia, Sandy enrolls at Rydell and befriends Pink Lady Frenchy, who considers dropping out of school to become a beautician. Oblivious to each other's presence at school, Danny and Sandy tell the T-Birds and Pink Ladies their respective accounts of events during their brief romance.

Upon learning Danny is Sandy's lover, Rizzo arranges for the two to reunite, but Danny is forced to maintain his badboy attitude in front of his friends, upsetting Sandy. Frenchy invites the girls to a sleepover, but Sandy gets sick after Frenchy pierces her ears.

The T-Birds almost crash the party, but a guilty Danny leaves, followed by Rizzo to make out with Kenickie, actually her boyfriend. The two are disturbed by Leo, leader of the T-Birds' rival gang, the Scorpions, and his girlfriend Cha-Cha, who bump into Kenickie's fender. Kenickie yells at Leo for dinging the fender. Wishing to win his way back into Sandy's affection after Danny spies her flirting with Rydell's muscular football star, Danny turns to Coach Calhoun to get into sports, eventually becoming a runner. He reunites with Sandy and they attempt to go on a date, but their friends crash it, resulting in Kenickie and Rizzo breaking up over a fight.

Left alone, Frenchy is visited by a guardian angel who advises her to return to high school.

e son of a desert-dwelling king and queen, is robbed of his birthright by the power-hungry priest named Maax and his demonic, Norn-like witches. After rendering the King immobile and helpless with a magical potion, one of the witches magically transfers Dar from his mother's womb to the uterus of a cow. The witch then kills the Queen while leaving the King alive to suffer with the knowledge his son and wife are dead. The witch takes the cow to which baby Dar was transferred to a remote place, where she removes him from the animal, brands his hand, and is moments away from killing him when he is saved by a passing peasant.

The peasant adopts Dar as his own son and raises him in his village. While still an adolescent, Dar learns that he has a telepathic relationship with animals. After Dar reaches adulthood, his adopted father and his entire village are murdered by the barbarian "Juns". After lighting a funeral pyre for them, Dar begins a quest for revenge. He is saved from a patch of quicksand and then aided on his quest by the ferret Kodo and his mate Podo, and befriends other beasts, notably Ruh, the black tiger and Sharak, the falcon, telepathically communicating with them.

Dar meets his love interest Kiri (Tanya Roberts) when he finds her bathing in a forest. His ferrets steal her clothes, and then Ruh frightens her and Dar's rescue ingratiates himself to her. She claims to be a slave girl.

On his way to seek vengeance, Dar encounters a tribe of bizarre, voiceless, winged beings who feed on humans by encasing them within large 'wing'-like arm covers and using a tube-like mouth…(click)

von Count, often known simply as "The Count", is one of the Muppet characters on Sesame Street, performed by Jerry Nelson. The Count is a vampire modeled after Bela Lugosi's interpretation of Count Dracula.

The Count debuted on Sesame Street in Season 4 (1972–73), and was conceived by Norman Stiles, who wrote the first script. The Count was performed by Jerry Nelson, who brought the character to life. He was originally made out of the Large Lavender Live Hand Anything Muppet pattern.

In the early 1970s, following a counting session, the Count would laugh maniacally, "AH AH AH AH AH!", accompanied by thunder and lightning flashes. He wouldn't let anything interrupt his counting, and used hypnotic powers to temporarily stun people with a wave of his hands.[citation needed] This practice, however, was discontinued in the mid-1970s because of concern that young viewers would become frightened. In the mid-1970s, the Count became friendlier, did not have hypnotic powers, and interacted more with the characters (both live actors and Muppets). His laugh also changed from maniacal laughter to a more triumphant, stereotypical Dracula-style laugh.

The Count's main purpose is educating children on simple mathematical concepts, most notably counting. The Count has a love of counting (arithmomania); he will count anything and everything, regardless of size, amount, or how much annoyance he is causing the other Muppets or human cast. For instance, he once prevented Ernie from answering a telephone because he wanted to continue counting the number of rings. Another time, while serving as an elevator operator, he refused to let Kermit the Frog get out at his selected floor so he could count all the floors in the building.

The Count lives in an old, cobweb-infested castle which he shares with many bats. Sometimes he counts them. Some of the pet bats are named, including Grisha, Misha, Sasha, and Tatiana. He has a cat, Fatatita, as well. Sometimes he counts her. He also drives a special car designed in the features of a bat, named the Countmobile.

The Count has been shown with a number of girlfriends. Always a feminized version of The Count muppet, they have included Countess von Backwards (debuting in Sesame Street's 28th season) who counts backwards; Countess Dahling von Dahling (debuted in the 12th season), and one simply named "The Countess" (first appearing in season 8). The von Count family also includes an unnamed brother…(click)
