Looks great. YouTube link Some great eye candy that is already inspiring plenty of 15mm ideas, should finally get round to buying some modern US troops. |

Great trailer Well, there actually was a "Battle for Los Angeles" in World War II, but it mostly involved shooting a looottttt of anti-aircraft ammunition into a mostly empty sky |

Also since when were woman in Combat Arms? I assume the soldiers are National Guard but some of the weapons indicate Infantry weapons that are not always available to support troops except for MPs etc. Just my take. I could be wrong! Battle: LA looks great! With that title I wonder if they're setting up sequels such as "Battle: New York". Yea but it does not look good for the home team. Also since when were woman in Combat Arms? I assume the soldiers are National Guard but some of the weapons indicate Infantry weapons that are not always available to support troops except for MPs etc. Just my take. I could be wrong! re: women in combat, excluding them is nice in theory, but given the realities of modern war rather difficult. Example below. (As a further aside, was the female soldier in Battle: LA the same actress who played the VTOL pilot in Avatar?) link "Sgt. Leigh Ann Hester fought her way through an enemy ambush south of Baghdad, killing three insurgents with her M-4 rifle to save fellow soldiers' lives -- and yesterday became the first woman since World War II to win the Silver Star medal for valor in combat. After insurgents hit the convoy with a barrage of fire from machine guns, AK-47 assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, Hester "maneuvered her team through the kill zone into a flanking position where she assaulted a trench line with grenades and M203 rounds," according to the Army citation accompanying the Silver Star. She then cleared two trenches with her squad leader where she engaged and eliminated three AIF [anti-Iraqi forces] with her M4 rifle. Her actions saved the lives of numerous convoy members," the citation stated." |

As a further aside, was the female soldier in Battle: LA the same actress who played the VTOL pilot in Avatar? Yes, it's Michelle Rodriguez, who was also on Lost and co-starred in "The Fast and the Furious" and "Fast & Furious." Her first was the critically successful "Girlfight." |

I'm surprised at all the (CGI) Sea Knights. I would have expected a few V22's just for the look of it if nothing else. But it does look like – post the slight sidestep of District 9 – Alien invasions in the US are back on the agenda. Again. It does look very (recent) War of the Worlds meets Independence Day. Might be ok. Liked WotW (and suprised myself, not being the biggest Tom Cruise fan on the planet) but hated Independence Day. I thought Cloverfield and District 9 were both ok but neither of them much up to a second watch. So I will also wait until others have 'sampled' the film first before comitting my pocket money. SKYLINE was a mess, and funnily enough ripped this film off – The team that did SKYLINE was one of the effects/production houses that started on BATTLE:LA and then went off and "created" ( In the same way a dog "creates" pavement fudge) their film. Sadly, SKYLINE could have made a good film – if they twisted it and went in the opposing direction* – If the humans being captured by the lights where taken to a place of safety from some cosmic disaster, like a massive solar flare that Earth science hadn't detected. Then again, the concept of non-hostile beings from elsewhere is not one the target audience can cope with . . . :) *Hey, it's been done – LET ME IN deliberately makes the vampire unlovable to most of the audience in an attempt to distance itself from TWILIGHT; It also makes itself a far different film from the Swedish original LET THE RIGHT ONE IN by doing so too.

Covert Walrus, check out Knowing with Nic Cage. It's horrible, but interesting at the same time. |
McWong73 | 12 Jan 2011 3:51 p.m. PST |
"Knowing" is a highly watchable train wreck. Check out some of the international trailers for the film, they give away more of the plot. From what I've seen it seems that LA is one of the final US cities to fall – which may explain why there is a mix of genders in the frontlines, you know, when your back's against the wall and all. |
Altius | 12 Jan 2011 6:43 p.m. PST |
After watching that trailer, did anyone else start thinking about an aliens vs modern forces scenario, or was it just me? BTW, I like the idea of an amphibious assault by space invaders, too. |

Then again, the concept of non-hostile beings from elsewhere is not one the target audience can cope with . . . :) Been done already (fairly well), and Nicolas Cage was definitely NOT invited to Nu Earth. I like the alien's use of power armour / robots. Nice to see instead of waves of creatures rushing into close combat. As for females in combat, I agree, the idea of them not being in Combat Arms to "protect them from combat" is moot. Unfortunately their biggest problem is sexual harassment and rape by their own colleagues. :( And yes, you just know Michelle Rodriguez will die in the finale. Her average film life expectancy seems to be 85-90% running time. |

Michelle Rodriguez is always stuck playing Vasquez from ALIENS. |

just got to come up with something for their "infantry". |
