What a wonderful thought to start the new year….

jony66303 Jan 2011 1:15 p.m. PST

I am not sure what this get them other than a new target for the IDF/AF.

zippyfusenet03 Jan 2011 1:42 p.m. PST

First we got The Bomb, and that was good,
'Cause we love peace and motherhood.

Don't forget that the Saudis hate Iran – and support an Israeli or American strike on them. The Saudis are very independent. They aren't really friends with us – but they are allies. And they are at odds with lots of their neighbors. The religious zealots are a force there – but they don't run the country.

Timbo W03 Jan 2011 2:12 p.m. PST

Yeah not good on general non-proliferation terms,

the Saudis apparently financed much of the Pakistani nuclear programme, and are known to have Pakistani and/or Chinese missiles in silos.

Reasonably cunning plan to have the warheads kept in Pakistan. First it gives them deniability – 'nukes? us? certainly not!' but also worries anyone that might have designs against them. I should think that the Saudis are more concerned about Iran than Israel. In effect the Saudis are in the position of European countries in the Cold War, that 'borrowed' nuclear weapons from the USA.

Should the Iranians try some nuclear blackmail in future against Saudi, then this becomes a rather different scenario. If Iran wants to try and destroy Saudi capabilities, then they have to take on Pakistan as well – rather a daunting idea!

The weak point is that the Pakistanis control the weapons, so would need to agree. Pakistan is not the most politically stable country in the world, but that's another question.

sector5103 Jan 2011 2:42 p.m. PST

Yep only having nukes makes you safe in todays world.

ghostdog03 Jan 2011 4:02 p.m. PST

i think that there is very extrange that they donīt have their nukes available…they need to bring them to their country first, a very weak situation, as you just need to shoot down a transport airplane to destroy their nuclear force?

Martin From Canada03 Jan 2011 4:30 p.m. PST

they need to bring them to their country first, a very weak situation, as you just need to shoot down a transport airplane to destroy their nuclear force?

If I were planning it, I would use a very elaborate shell game… The article did say that there were 2 planes on standby. But what if they are a decoy, and the real bombs are Fedxed to SA. They say that they can ship 'anything' ;)

basileus6603 Jan 2011 5:36 p.m. PST

"Nuclear on demand"… Looks like Pakistan is acting like the Wal-Mart of nuclear weapons.

WarpSpeed03 Jan 2011 5:40 p.m. PST

How much of this is to deter a strike on the wahabi extremists that are the core of al qaeda but also are wealthy saudi oil tycoons?

WarpSpeed03 Jan 2011 6:14 p.m. PST

Rent a rocket geo-politics…nice now we have to bribe Pakistan to forego providing service access to such weapons.Mayhap North Korea will see this and jump on the band wagon too.

John the OFM03 Jan 2011 8:26 p.m. PST

I think we should make this a Poll Suggestion, with the results being binding on the Saudis.

Seriously, I would rather the Saudis had nukes than the Norks. Compared to North Korea, the Saudis are a model of conservative restraint.
ALLEGEDLY, the Saudis have been egging on Israel and the US to take out Iran's nukes. Plainly, we have not, and since most nations can be counted on to act in what they perceive are their own self interests, I am not a bit surprised.
I am only surprised that it took so long. Saudi Arabia was probably bankrolling the Pakistani nuclear development anyway.

Grand Duke Natokina03 Jan 2011 8:31 p.m. PST

Then Russia got the bvomb,
But that's okay.
Cause the balance of power's maintained that way.
weaselhoffen.

John the OFM03 Jan 2011 9:07 p.m. PST

But what if they are a decoy, and the real bombs are Fedxed to SA.

Nah. Fed Ex them to Iran!

Cacique Caribe03 Jan 2011 10:40 p.m. PST

The IDF better not mess with our oil supply, unless they are the ones who are going to give us oil for the same amount or less!!!

Otherwise, they are going to have to worry about an entirely different source of incoming warheads.

Dan

badger2203 Jan 2011 10:42 p.m. PST

Grand Duke I have not heard that in a long time. now I need to see if my old tape will play. Heck I need to see if my old cassette player will play.

Just different Ferengi groups, but all guided by the same purely capitalist standards.

Best thing about being a cousin to a Soviet Premiere,is that you get beat up in the Canadian army.

Cacique Caribe03 Jan 2011 11:36 p.m. PST

I say put them all siblings in a room, without any outside help whatsoever, and see who come out. If any.

Or just judge each side by how they treat their cousins. But all you get out of it is the rest of us bleeding for someone else's family squabble.

The spice must flow.

Dan

WarpSpeed03 Jan 2011 11:44 p.m. PST

Yep ,IIHF 4-1 Can_USA!

Cacique Caribe03 Jan 2011 11:47 p.m. PST

Well, if we can't get our oil from Saudis, we'll just have to annex Canada, and get what we can there. :)

Dan
PS. Either that or some of you guys come up with a profitable alternative. The Fuel Wars are a-coming. And it ain't what you've seen so far.

The British Commonwealth defends Canada,as will Russia ,China and India, whether we like it or not. Some of us will ,and still would stand and die,the truth beknownst.Canada must become a voluntary member of the republic or a big back door of bacon ,slapshots,Tim Hortens smokey fried doughnuts, and bald white tourists will innundate Florida.Happy New Year comedy rant.

Cacique Caribe04 Jan 2011 12:11 a.m. PST

Want Florida? You can have it. Just let us have the oil. :)

Dan
PS. You can have Louisiana too. And I'll throw California in for free!

Top Gun Ace04 Jan 2011 12:14 a.m. PST

Perhaps we should ask the Saudis to do us a favor, for a change…..

Cacique Caribe04 Jan 2011 12:16 a.m. PST

What? To give us their one and only limited resource for a discount? LOL

They are just doing what anyone of us would do, making the most of the few years they have left.

Dan
PS. Did I ever tell you guys of a short story I wrote when I was 14 (wow, 31 years ago already?), about a half Arab half Jew boy (a true son of Abraham) who grows up to nuke Mecca, Riyadh and Jerusalem and Tel Aviv?

sector5104 Jan 2011 12:42 a.m. PST

The British Commonwealth defends Canada

If we were as effective as we were defending Grenada from the US, then you have nothing to fear.

Top Gun Ace04 Jan 2011 12:47 a.m. PST

No, not that.

They've asked us to take care of Iran, or to let the Israelis do it, when it appears they are perfectly capable of doing so themselves, with a little help from well-paid local friends.

Cacique Caribe04 Jan 2011 12:47 a.m. PST

LOL

Dan
PS. Flawless logic. Let Barbarians (or Goyim) take care of Barbarians.

Top Gun Ace04 Jan 2011 2:36 a.m. PST

It's worked well in the past, in many cases.

First wahabaism (spelling) now Nukes to "control" the "fundamentalists" you created and the traditional heretics (Iran) down the block.

Makes the wars of Religion in France (John Calvin was a Frenchman I believe) seem soooo tame.
