"1/1/11 - Solo Gaming Day" Topic

One of the members of the Yahoo Solo Wargaming group suggested we all commit 1/1/11 as International Solo Wargaming Day.

So get to it and book a game on that day and write it up.

Sounds good to me. In fact I have exactly the perfect game in mind. But, who am I supposed to book a game with if it is Solo Wargaming Day?

Your choices… Han Solo if it is a Star Wars game, Napoleon Solo if it is a Cold War spy vs. spy game or you could just sing "O Solo(Sole) Mio" for any of the various Italian campaigns through the centuries. If you're planning on doing Star Trek, you are out of luck. That guy's name is Sulu and hasn't signed on yet.

We like solo games.
I take one side.
And I take the other.

I think that I would make better use of my time painting.

I like the Napoleon Solo retro game idea, and he fits in nicely with the theme too…..

All being well Hicks Pasha and the Mahdi will be doing battle on that day as part of my contribution to Solo Wargaming Day.

Either that or I'll be giving "B17 – Queen of the Skies" a spin again :)

Great idea! I could dust off Fasa's Crimson Skies and do some Zepp-bashing. I even have miniatures for that.

'B17-Queen of the Skies', I have'nt played that in a while. Last time I did the Crew had more holes than the plane did.

Or use Twilight 2000 with my old modern minitanks.

Okay at 11:11AM I am going to playtest my Hoth Star Wars game with SIX 20mm AT-ATs I will see if I can get some phone camera shots as my other camera went with the Ex.

I got a feeling I will be nursing a headache on New Years Day, so solo gaming might be helpful. Well, at least more quiet.

As a more serious reply to my earlier post…

I just ordered a battery of 105mm Howitzers and if received in time to get them ready, I'll do the Easy Company D-Day assault on the battery near Brecourt Manor.

"Me" will play the US Paras. "Myself" will play the Germans. And "I" will umpire. May the best man win!

So who do you shake hands with at the end of the game?

Good idea! Shame I won't be able to take part as will be on holiday and far away from my minis…

Good idea but I will still be a bit drunk so will decline in favour of a sober GM.

you are playing a game by yourself; why schedule it for a specific day? Just play a game when you can.

Wouldn't 14th February be more appropriate?

I will endevor to join in. Although tradition has it that what ever you do on New Year's Day you will be doing a lot in the coming year… Does this ean we are setting ourselves up for a lot more solo games? or more gaming in general? Either way it's not so bad for me.

So how will anyone know that it's a special day? You'll all stay home and play with yourselves.
I guess you could organize a march or a convention, but that would run counter to the "solo" aspect. And the convention might have a great bar and buffet, but when the games start, everyone would off to their respective rooms. The die hards would run around a table in a conference room throwing dice and swearing at them as they see fit.

Well I started a solo game but I caught myself cheating and now I'm not speaking to myself.

Don't take it out on yourself, its always someone elses fault

game room temp 37deg F, 1066 fig, 3 battlefield repairs, Preuss caus 48 K,W,M 21 fig routed, Russ caus 49 K,W,M 46 fig routed, 3 1/2 hrs completed, not done.

I still think 14th February would have been more apt.

I hope nobody had a bath for at least a week before their game.
