Ahhh real devil music :)

I like Eddie and the crew, but head banging music tends to get my blood pressure up and leaves me a bit agitated.

It must be the back beat dun dun dun dun dun dunt de dun :)

I saw on another post that the bloatfly is cat sized…that is small in 15mm :(

*****

How about one challenge a week, after the holidays?

Something that keeps with a current project for one and then the other…I am working on 15mm non-humanoid aliens (got a goal of 50-60 and have 20+ in various WIP stages)…do you have a current project direction?

Battle Miniatures Emporium 15 Dec 2010 1:20 p.m. PST
Hello 28MMM

You know for an old fat man i am kind of busy.

I am working to build an entire world in 15Mm. This is a RPG game my best friends played and helped me build over the last 10 years. It is called TOMORROW BLACK and is set in the far future. Basically I have been working on this setting and game for the last several yeas, and now I am finally able to do the miniatures for it.

So hell yes, we can do a 15MM sculpture EVERY WEEK starting January first.
How is that?

BTW: I have decided to turn these MURG Flies into a little swarm, so I going to get the others started and then show you a group shot, with bases.
Theses flies hang out in what I call The Blackened places, and with the Murghast fellows.

Devil Music keeps me awake…lol.

28mmMan 15 Dec 2010 5:01 p.m. PST
"Domani il nero" (Tomorrow Black…in Italian)

Sounds like fun…I am a collector of all things post apocalyptic, especially RPG's…if you are looking for a fresh set of eyes I am available :)

When Jan 01 comes around, the challenge will be either a post apoc type or alien type depending on the week…

So each month, in theory we would each have two minis for our particular mission and two that would be fun and potentially useful.

That said, the ones that are not mission productive need only be done to the recognizable state…leaving time to work on the more productive miniatures.

The mission owner for that week dictates the challenge?

The extra minis would offer practice if nothing else and at least for me, I do not mind building a library of post apoc miniatures.

*****

The challenger should establish a good description:

example…three armed, 8', two legs, reptilian, long tail, tail club/spike/etc. (alien)

or

example…humanoid mutant, with hand cannon and giant hammer, scavenger type, fits the name "Dren the Hammer"

or

even better a picture/drawing of the intended subject link

*****

How does that sound?

*****

PS
Now that I have found out the bloatfly is the size of a cat I have started another one…shooting for the size of a 15mm man's head :)

28mmMan 15 Dec 2010 10:18 p.m. PST
All righty then, here is my third shot at the bloatfly link posed next to a Khurasan 15mm Lhurgg trooper for scale.

This should be more on track for the size noted; large house cat.

infojunky 16 Dec 2010 2:29 a.m. PST
Hey guys those are great.

28mmMan 16 Dec 2010 7:13 a.m. PST
Thanks, I am real happy with the latest one :)

Battle Miniatures Emporium 16 Dec 2010 11:02 a.m. PST
Well looks like "Third time is the charm." for your efforts on this lil guy.
NICE!
Sexy…almost…lol.

Okay, on the contest.

I like what you have purposed, so let's go with it.
My only point is that we keep the subject generic.
I am doing specific critters for TOMORROW BLACK. This is not going to be an issue really, because I will simply not include a core monster from my setting into any of OUR Contest.
I think we should be general with some topics also.
For example, if you say "Joe this week I want to sculpt a female with a BIG Gun."
I think we should do what we like then…for example mine will likely be a Sci-Fi gal…but she might look like Angelina Joelie, or she could be a horrid mutant thing.
Wait…there ain't much difference there…Oops…

You get the idea I think.

Now if you want to do a concept like the Bloat Fly, that is cool too, but again lets keep it generic.

Some ideas I want to get into these weeklies for January; Generic Human Males & Females, Mutant Animals, and Bizarre Protoplasmic Things.

I think it would be cool to also take suggestions from our Brothers Of The One Five.

How is all of that sounding (reading…lol) to you Ray Ray Boy?

Joseph

28mmMan 16 Dec 2010 4:57 p.m. PST
Ok sounds good to me. We will alternate week to week, with the other guy choosing the next week's subject…unless our fellow TMPers provide us with a challenge…I would be up for either way.

And I would welcome anyone else who wants to join in :)

*****

What would you say to a pig-man…mutant. No great amount of description, just pig-man.

Battle Miniatures Emporium 16 Dec 2010 6:06 p.m. PST
Cool. Now what do we call this weekly sculpt-a-thon?

"Daddy Joe & Ray`s Weekly Sculpt"
"Daddy Ray & Joe's Weekly Sculpt"
"The Big Daddies Weekly Sculpt"

What do you think?

I like the Pig Guy idea.

Joseph

28mmMan 16 Dec 2010 6:50 p.m. PST
How about what the subject is?

week 01 : TMP 15mm Pig-Man challenge

week 02 : TMP 15mm " insert "

Each week a new thread opens with the weekly challenge in the title.

28mmMan 16 Dec 2010 9:47 p.m. PST
Joseph,

I had a thought.

How about a theme, say for a team?

Salute of the Jugger or Blood of Heroes link has always been a favorite of mine…think mad max/road warrior + land hockey :)

Why don't we commit to a five man team from a post apocalyptic setting? Dirt, dust, dog heads…

One member a week.

At the end of the project we should have a viable team of miniatures.

How about that?

The players:

quick or quik…no weapon, only one allowed to carry the dog skull (they raise dogs for food) and to plant on the stake

chain or net…a ranged weapon made of chain or rope that is swung overhead to create a protected zone for the quick to sneak by or to keep another player at bay much like a tire chain attached to a short staff picture

and three enforcers or blockers…a staff weapon of choice…no blades, spikes, or chains…think hockey sticks with another functional end…club, hook, T, Y, L, or other…remember it is a sport and while players get hurt, seriously in some cases, these are sports tools not direct weapons.

three substitutes are allowed in the game and a manager that heckles, makes deals, and coaches

*****

The chain guy and the quick are partners, the chain tries to barrel down the field clearing a path and then the quick blasts through an opening to get to the stake at the end of the field…anyone can strike at the quick, but only the quicks can carry the skull…the guards can move the skull with their sticks/staffs but can not plant the skull on the stake…guards can pin a fallen player by sitting on them or holding them down with their stick/staff…any player can hit another player, but the plan is to strike to stun rather than maim.

Interested?

Battle Miniatures Emporium 17 Dec 2010 6:51 a.m. PST
Why heck yeah.
Let's do it.
Can you write it up as a list so I can reefer to it like a roster?
I was going to do some MAD MAX Thunderdoom figures anyhow, so this is just as cool me thinks…and the PIG Guy could be the Reff…lol…with a big chain saw to mark the field, and keep players in line.

I think the weekly name is fine, it IS the event, but the project as a whole needs a name.
What say we just go with "Big Daddies Sculpt-A-Thon"
Unless you have something better…

I would like to set up a Blog for it, and post links to the TMP weekly topics9Challenges), and post each weeks successes (lol…or Failures) at the Blog.

I want to post a raw armature first thing on Monday, so that everybody KNOWS that the weeks sculpt really did just get started that week…lol…on MONDAY. Then we show WIPs and chat and holler and cat call until FRIDAY which is the Day Of Truth when we post our COMPLETED work, for that week.

Sound good?

28mmMan 17 Dec 2010 9:16 p.m. PST
The Grand 150μm 7 day Sculpting Challenge ?

or

These are few of my favorite things…15mm Sculpting Challenge ?

If we start on Monday with armatures then wouldn't Sunday be the as completed as possible show day?

The Jugger game is strictly sticks (well some chain/net) and stones (thrown against a gong of sorts, as a timer).

Best thing is to watch the movie if possible…it is far away from Blood Bowl or the same.

More like five man field hockey.

For a roster, the team is basically your stereo typical five person roster…there are women on the teams in the movie, but unless they were mutants I suspect it was more a chance to show some boobies rather than expressing female equality.

Five man team

(example)

Tyr Town Redhands (red paint hand print on the face for game day)

manager…caries the supplies, trade materials, food/water…shares the wealth without playing…usually a retired (injured) veteran player

pusher…team captain and best all round player…the movie did not have any quicks or chains as pushers, and these makes sense as they are driven to clear as much ground as possible and score…the pusher plays in the center of the field guiding the action with voice and hands on attention.

blockers…two players work to stop the forward movement of the opposing team's quick and chain. Usually big and strong…think lineman with a staff with a big T and club on either end.

chain…usually tall and swings a homemade chain net that creates an umbrella of protection for the quick or a damage screen to block the oncoming team members…and yes guarding the stake (goal) is allowed but that leaves your quick unprotected.

quick…usually small and fast fast…think a forward from soccer and an MMA fighter…hands on…punching, kicking, biting, etc.. They are the only ones who can carry the dog skull (ball) and more importantly place it on the stake.

*****

So in the strictest of interpretations, which is certainly not required by any means, that is that.

Five on five

one quick, one chain, and three guards/blockers

*****

For this idea I would stick with this in exacting detail, but you can have and should have whatever details that interest you :)

Now I am the first guy to include mutants, but for my first five they will just be people.

There was a quick in the movie, the dogboy, who got injured…he had a ugly face, acted with canine behaviors, even drank water by lapping…if he was a mutant then it was marginal and within reasonable tolerances like those we see today…heights of 3'-7' +/- several inches, full ranges of skin tones with even some patterns picture picture , as well as odd minor mutations picture picture

So reasonable mutants…bigger, taller, stronger, tougher, as well as internal ones like increased healing, heightened digestive system, woven bones (nearly unbreakable), etc. could be inserted without busting the damn.

*****

All that said, the players could be anything you want…orcs, pig-men, mutants, normals, frog-men, whatever.

I am going to shoot for a somewhat normal five…little guy, a couple average types, and a couple big or tall guys.

Thoughts?

Battle Miniatures Emporium 18 Dec 2010 8:05 a.m. PST

I have seen this film, a few times. I just wanted you to make us a team list write up…lol.
I was going to make a fighting pit for my future town terrain, and this is going to be the first set of figures in it.
Very fun.
I will do humans for my team too, with that Pig Mutant referee, or maybe he is just a fat guy with a mask on…dunno, but he will have a chain saw.

I think these guys could also be used in Gladiatorial games, the wild stuff of Mad Max, you know.

On the name…how about: "The Weekly One Five"
Simple and says what it is.
I think we could go 6 days…then rest…lol…and talk about what is to be done next, on the seventh day.

So on Monday we post our ideas, intentions, and an armature, with any images we feel are appropriate, for our proposed master pieces.

We work all week, posting WIP's and crap talk…lol…and post our completed works on Saturday.

Sunday we chat up the next project and start it all again on Monday.

Yikes…you may stir the troops with posts like that my friend :)

*****

Battle Miniature Emporium and I (anyone else is more than welcome to join in the fun) are going to try a sculpting challenge of one 15mm miniature a week starting on Jan 01.

The current considered theme is a small team of post apocalyptic sports types in a mad max-ish world. Five guys (or girls if you like) with staff and chains.

Sorry for the confusion…hopefully the project generates a series of fun and potentially useful miniatures.

After the initial team build, if that idea stand the test, then it is an open challenge with each week bringing a new project idea…for one of us or from TMP member suggestions.

Paintbeast18 Dec 2010 11:12 a.m. PST

Might try offering a summary of the idea with links to the relevant topics next time…that was a bit weird for this site. Cool idea though. Sounds like a blast, and look forward to following along.

Eli Arndt18 Dec 2010 11:13 a.m. PST

Dude, what was that?

I am sorry but that rambling post lost any real meaning about half through.

Battle Miniatures Emporium18 Dec 2010 2:54 p.m. PST

Sorry I just wanted to post the entire conception, which was discussed throughout all of the post Ray & I made, in that long ramble…lol..
A record from day one, if you will.
grin

ThorLongus18 Dec 2010 3:24 p.m. PST

i think its agreat idea, guys.
my only caveat would be to delegate editorial duties to 28mm man

Andrew May119 Dec 2010 5:55 p.m. PST

Hi BME, the idea sounds good, but I must admit I did drift off about a third of the way through… Any chance of an executive summary?

28mmMan19 Dec 2010 6:10 p.m. PST

In the future there will be small updates with a few pics of the armatures and the WIP builds. At the end of each week there will be a brief discussion of what to do for the next week.

And then comments from fellow TMPers :)

Input of what to sculpt for the next 15mm challenge week will of course be open to the floor…suggestions will always be welcome as well as those who want to join in on the challenge fun.

Battle Miniatures Emporium19 Dec 2010 6:42 p.m. PST

There you go ACE, Ray did it…lol.

Also I am going to start a new Blog for this project, which will have every weeks work posted.
The first 6 weeks are devoted our "Blood Of Heroes" teams.

Also as Ray has posted, we WELCOME other One Five Sculptors to join us, if they like the subject and are devoted to 15MM sculpting…of course.
This all got started by a fellow TMPer so the weekly subjects to be sculpted can come from anyone with a good idea.
