I'm too lazy to create my own website, so pics of my painted cicadas are in my photo album at www.paperworlds.com Go to Photos-Gallery and look for the one titled Squirmydads samples.
I picked these beauties off of the trees in Perry Kansas years ago, every day there were more shells, and every day the shells got bigger.
I keep them in a candy box as a great conversational starter when new people show up at my office. Eric |

I live in Cincinnati Ohio and we have a periodic infestation of cicadas. This year 5 billion are expected to arrive. I recall seeing swarms as thick as a biblical plague when I was a child. ACK!!! link Last cicada standing? With 5 billion entries, we will be here for a while. LOL Delljohnb |

They are Terrific Squirmydad ! Can you give us the lowdown on how you did it ? You guys are so lucky living in America with all your insect plagues , Twisters , Golfball sized hailstones , etc .

Velbor - lol - but we have real life skirmishes to watch between pikies and the police here in the UK ;-) Squirmydad - they are cool - how do you stop them from smelling etc - is it one empty shell and no residue of the creature? |

Hi, thanks, I just rinsed them, mainly to get the dust off, then filled some with superglue and some with Malt-o-meal. Malt-o-meal hardens pretty well when dry and it's cheap. The shells were empty with no apparent residue and a big split up the back where the cicada squeezed out the back. You can also try just (gently) squeezing the sides of the shell together and glueing the split closed, but I felt that they were just too light that way and needed a filler. Eric |

Pretty neat. They give me the willies, but are pretty neat. Willies or no, I'll see if I can scrounge up a few this summer. The troops can always use a nasty suprise! |
