I had a devil of a time finding pics of 15mm Legion/Arab games and miniatures for inspiration and to see how people painted Arabs and all that. Hopefully, as crappy as these are, they'll exist for others who like to cast an aye over this Old School stuff.

My friend managed to record March or Die off the television in the early 80's and we watched it constantly and mail ordered off to Modelers Mart for forces of our own. Both of us were brand spanking new to painting and though our resources were limited being 12-13 years old we had a blast re-fighting that dig site scene at the end.

Many of these weren't cleaned of flash, washed, or sealed. They were just primed in white and the oldest ones were mostly just stained with thinned down Polly S paints.

Funny enough, I think the Stone Mountain guys came from our own Dinofwar2's Eric Burgess as I recognize the old basing style in his rules for Legion games I found at link There weren't any Arabs for sale but I bought a small Legion force at Historicon one year primed brown and permanently affixed to washers.

At any rate, a disaster compelled me to rebase all them that I'd been slowly adding to over the years and they looked pretty cool so I thought I'd share. I have some cavalry that needs the new basing treatment and a new Mule Company unit in the works painted up to my modern standard.

I posted a similar link at LAF but questions, comments and followers are welcome!

Wow, those aren't too bad for a young kid and few resources. My Der Kreigspieler's LOTR Archers of Morthond were painted in ugly solid Humbrol enamels. I still have em and I still love em.

;-D

Thanks,

John

Pretty cool. I have wanted to do 15mm FFL for a long time. It's daunting to realized I have been thinking about buying the Stone Mountain figures since I saw their add in The Courier back in the early 80s!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Flashman14,

I really like the Stone Mountain figures. My Death in the Desert rules are for skirmish gaming, and I'm working on a Squad level game (Din of Battle 2nd edition) that will allow you to fight with units as squads. I plan to blog about the newer rules soon.

Good luck with the project! I love your miniature collection for the period. You should have many enjoyable battles with these.
