Here's a T-90 tank I'm making from a T-72 hull and T-80 turret Geoff at QRF kindly sent as a custom order: link The problem I have is where to place the remaining pieces that are in the bottom left of the picture. I know the magazine box goes on the right of the AA gun, though I can't see how the two should fit together – the box has a peg but there is no corresponding hole on the gun, so I'm thinking about just snipping off the peg to provide more surface area for the glue. The AA gun itself goes in the hole you can see at the front of the hatch on the turret. However, there is a second hole at the rear of the hatch – does the round thing (sorry, no idea what it is!) go in there? That leaves me with what I think is a gunner's shield. Where does this go? I can't see a place for it because the hatch itself opens forward and provides protection for the gunner, as you can see here: picture Any assistance would be appreciated. |

I can't see the second hole but the round ting looks like a spotlight to me. But then I'm becoming blind as bat.. |

A spotlight! It seems so obvious now! That's what you get when you're assembling tanks when you should be sleeping. The second hole is behind the hatch so the hatch itself obscures it. Here's a shot of the tank from the rear, showing the second hole: link |

I believe the AAA gun goes in the second hole. I'm looking at my Jane's Tanks recognition guide and the T-80 AAA gun is mounted to the rear of the TC's turret hatch. Hope that helps. -BY |

If the gun faces the rear, that would explain why QRF have included a shield. I'd better take another look at some T-80 pix tomorrow. |

Egad, Tacobat, I think you're right! I checked the QRF website last night and thought it looked like the T-80 turret with ERA. Looking again after some sleep, I see small differences I missed before. I'd better email Geoff

its the older T-72MV, I've built the model several times :P If you want to do the T-90 you're going to have to redo the era, what you see on there is 1st generation ERA when you are going to want is the 3rd gen Kontakt-5, the panels of which are far less intricate in nature. I've made the modernized T-72MV2001, but never the T-90, they are quite similar in appearence, but the T-90 has the RWS, some more ods and sods on the turret, and a different reactive armor configuration on the front of the turret itself. Re the AAMG – isn't it mounted on a fully-rotating cupola (thus it could be at the front or the rear)? |
