Anyone played these rules by Two Hour Wargames? I was thinking about purchasing it if it is simple enough for kids 10-14 to learn. Thanks for your assistance. |

You can see three BATREPS at my blog: link The rules are simple to grasp and play once you understand them. |

The unit building system is very flexible there are no racial-advantage per se, just a set of traits you can give to units as you see fit. There are about 100 ready made armies to use. But you can easily customise. For example-If you want to differentaite discipline just give diffrent Reps to units or use the undisciplined trait for the more undsiciplined units. You can also give them diffrent Armor ratings. |

It is fairly simple if you follow the rules :o) In terms of control, you do deploy your troops and move them as you wish, but once you get to within charge/missile distance things can happen very quickly, and not necessarily how you might want them. There is very little opportunity for fancy geometrical manoeuvres or calculations. But once you have the reaction flow fixed in your mind (and it is not complicated, just different to most wargames) RRTK gives a very satisfying game. There is no army break limit, and that is quite hard to come to terms with; but a) it makes having an effective reserve worth having, as it can decide a battle rather than retire off the field because a third of the army has gone down and b) campaigns are encouraged and that gives you a reason for not fighting to the last man. And it's very easily transferable to historical armies. |

Blacksmith – thanks for an excellant BATREP. I enjoyed reading your report on the Romans vs the green horde. Advocate – thanks for the heads up info. I think I'll purchase this set of rules and see how well the youngsters like it. My thanks to all who responded. |
