Ive been debating using 15mm for a modern zombie game. One of the selling points was the availablity and affordability of matchbox and hotwheels at the local WalMart for the dozens of cars Ill need to fill the city streets. Im reading now that the typical MB or HW is actually 1:67, a far cry from 1:100 which I believe is 15mm. Upon comparing the figs to the vehicles they do indeed look pretty small next to typical car, yet some seem to look ok. Evidently the MB and HWs are not a single scale. Are there any actual 15mm cars out there? Will I have to pick and choose each car individually to see if its about right? |

HO [1/87] model railroad autos are much more useful with 15mm. Some are pretty cheap, and some more expensive but there is a wide variety. - |

Is it different enough to overcome the absolute availability and low price of your typical matchbox? Having a couple of mm of base on the 15s raises them up a bit and seems like it would do at such a small scale. |

Big vehicles are scaled down and work fine. Stuff like the garbage trucks. I use this missile launcher for 15mm sci-fi: picture This might work as well (what kid does not own this Matchbox?): picture |

I think they work fine, and I've bought loads to use with 15mm games. To me at least, regardless of their theoretical scale differences, they look good. |

I'm not sure if it's that my 15mm stuff is big for its scale or if I'm careful about the matchbox I buy, but they seem to fit just fine. For civilian vehicles and military utility vehicles, they're perfect. Though be sure to eye your minis first-hand before you buy them. So whatever the theoretical scale differences, in practice they look perfect to me, and I'm pretty fiddly about scale differences. |

N-scale from the model train shop would suit. |

Hmmm, N (1/144th if I recall) scale is actually going to seem really small next to a 15mm scale miniature. I've found that larger scale vehicles and smaller scale figures work much better than the other way around. Grumpy, I'd recommend Hotwheels/matchbox trucks and HO scale cars. Holding a 15mm mini (HOF stellar refugee) next to a maisto (matchbox size) sedan just looks a bit too off for me. However, if you're not that picky or if your 15's are a bit on the heroic side and based up a bit, matchbox cars could work. There are a few matchbox and hot wheels that are smaller than average. In particular I saw a Aston Mini that would work well. |

Look on e-bay. There is a chinese company selling packs of plastic 1/100 cars. They are pretty cheap and are the right size. They come in packs of 100 with 4 different car models in a variety of colors. You can see them in use in my mogadishu layout. link |

I would tend to disagree the N-Scale works with 15mm. Being that 15mm is supposed to be 1:100 and N-Scale is 1:148 to 1:160. That is a difference of roughly 50% smaller. |

I always thought N scale would work better with 10mm figures! |

If you use 20mm or 1/72 scale with matchbox and hotwheels they look good to me. Stan Johansen Miniatures carries Post-Apocalyptic minis appropriate for survivors as well as armaments for the cars. The Zombies from Bag O' Zombies would work with that scale too, males, females and dogs. I use the hotwheels/matchbox for post-apocalyptic fun Mad Max style. Good gaming. |
