Doing a little searching, I see that John Jenkins and Oshiro produce some very nice resin buildings and terrain for the 25mm/28mm Samurai era, but I'd like to know if there are any others out there as well? I'd also like to know between the two mentioned above, which periods they are for, e.g. the JJ ones have steeper roofs, with thatch and bamboo, while the Oshiro ones have much flatter roofs, and a more spartan appearance to them. I'm interested in other items in resin/metal for a village, or castle, as well, e.g. covered wells, lanterns, braziers, sacks of rice, barrels, etc. |

John Jenkins produces some lanterns/braziers. I bought some haystacks from Battlefield Concepts. Perry Miniatures does fences and rice bales. We're working on some stuff that will be compatible and released in 2011. I have nearly all of both the Oshiro and Jenkins ranges. They're both pretty nice. I did some touching up on the Oshiro buildings. Note that the Jenkins buildings have hollow interiors while the Oshiro buildings are solid resin. Armorcast's Terraform line of scenery has some Japanese terrain including lanterns, walls, an arch, and a bridge. link I've also painted a village set from Hovels line of buildings. Solid cast buildings though. |

if i can find it i will post it too. Not a link to models, but great for photos if you want to paint or scratch build: link |

We used to make some building blanks for this sort of thing, I think we still have a bunch left. |

I actually have a small walled compound in resin that I was thinking of selling- its unpainted. It was made for Legends of the 5 Rings iirc- I can check when I get home. Let me know if interested |

Imai made a very nice set of Japanese shops for a city that were 1:52 which work well for 25mm/28mm figures. They show up on eBay time to time. Surprisingly I got my set at the Japanese Showcase at Disneyworld. Here's some ads for them at link you have to go the page bottom for the pre-2000 updates and then go to the link for Imai They are very very nice kits |

"I'd also like to know between the two mentioned above, which periods they are for, e.g. the JJ ones have steeper roofs, with thatch and bamboo, while the Oshiro ones have much flatter roofs, and a more spartan appearance to them." I think is more of a difference between country/village buildings and urban buildings rather than eras. The dioramas of Osaka at the Osaka Museum of History look like the Oshiro buildings: link But I have seen many village building from the same timeframe that look like the JJ buildings: link |

Wow, those Osaka models are amazing, thanks a lot for the link. |

Yes, I wish my photos turned out as well as those in the link. The models are even more impressive in person – it is worth a visit if you ever go to Osaka. The city section alone is about 3m by 3m. |

Thanks for the info, and the links to photos. I really appreciate it. Those Osaka models are amazing indeed. They look real. |

joekano: Thanks for the link to the Osaka farm houses. It gives me some ideas for adding new buildings to my scratch built jinaimachi. To this point all my ideas have come from and are variations of the buildings in Turnbulls Fortified Temples book. I build when I have no money for lead. TIG |
