I've taken advantage of the recent Crusader sales and ordered Prussian and Austrian armies but now I need artillery pieces (battery guns not battalion guns).

A quick search has only given me one Austrian 3pdr from Elite and one from Crusader. The Prussians are slightly better served.

My search so far is Sash and Saber, no SYW. Elite several French and Brits one Austrian 3pdr. Foundry some nice Russian guns a couple of Prussian guns, no Austrians. Front Rank several Russian and then generic 18th century guns that look a bit robust (nice but chunky).

I've given up on Berliner Zinnfiguren as the price is too high and searching the site is a pain.

Am I barking up the wrong tree, should I just buy the same guns for both Austrian and Prussians? What do all you good people do for your SYW artillery?

when all else fails, as it does very quickly in this matter I revert to Front Rank..

Aha! I have been sourcing artillery for my ImagiNation – plenty of choice out there.

Front Rank – Excellent
Dixon – Also good but somewhat earlier (still usable mid-1700s)
Reiver – very nice and cheap
Irregular – cheap and fine with a bit of work
Parkfield – some forgotten gems
Outpost – In their Reiver range a nice piece

If you buy Elite you might want to start light. I bought a gun from them once that was surprisingly large. I was just getting samples and ended up not going that route, so never looked into it much. Don't get me wrong, I really like Elites figs just a word of caution.

I agree that Front Rank is excellent.

Great thanks for the responses, looks like Front Rank is the way to go.

Front Rank is always the way to go :-)

Great figures, great people and great service!

Foundry have 20% off , for some unfathomable reason, so I have picked up 3 12lbers and a Howitzer for my Prussian Project..

Nic's guns are very nice , I can attest to that , but are a bit small for position pieces in M&R..otherweise I would have more than I had..I passed all mine onto GreatwhiteZulu

Interesting Your Eminence

Do they still charge some outlandish shipping fee? If not I may get some of those silly Russians with peacock feathers for IR.14

Cardinal Hawkwood19 Nov 2010 4:13 a.m. PST

if you purchase enough they have a free post option seems to be around 70 quids worth..yes some of those feahtered boys would look good..I did resist but..

I am visiting a show tomorrow and will see if I can find some of those outlandish Russian fops there. If not I may succumb and give Mr Ansell my custom – something I have not done in a decade.

I chipped in on an order with some one so we get the free postage from the Foundry and for some inexplicable reason their guns strike me as being a fair price..if it wasn't for their free postage and sales I would never buy from hem..been a good week UK SYW wise..Crusader sale and then foundry sale, nice Prussian army on the way..all I need is some straightforward way to buy GMB flags..now that is a weird haunted website..what's the story there? terrific product. hoops, banana skins and barrels strewn across the path to the front door? Is this an example of the famous English eccentricity so beloved by some Insular gamers?

John Clements20 Nov 2010 7:19 a.m. PST

Cardinal – re GMB – it's not so much eccentricity as that he has a full-time job, a young family, and is doing the flag thing in his (very) spare time. I agree the site can be frustrating but you could try emailing if all else fails.

Go with Elite if you want an accurate Lichtenstein system three pounder… you might think it looks big but they were… part of the system was to employ interchangeable wheels so the smaller pieces also had large wheels. And it has the accurate towing bars…
